Hootsuite has nine scored alternatives in 2026. Publer leads the closest-fit switches at 3.9 out of 5, PostMonk follows at 3.7, and Vista Social scores highest in the whole pool at 4.0. I scored all nine on the same seven-category rubric and priced each against Hootsuite’s $99 per user per month Standard plan.
One number frames the decision. Three years on a single Hootsuite seat costs $3,564. The same three years costs $29 on PostMonk, $612 on SocialPilot Essentials, and $756 on Publer.
Below you get the ranked quick list, why teams leave Hootsuite, and where it still wins. Then come the switching criteria, a comparison table with three-year costs, and migration steps for the top picks.

Disclosure: This guide is written by the PostMonk team. PostMonk competes with Hootsuite and every tool listed here. It appears in the ranking scored by the same rubric as everyone else. Publer and Vista Social both score higher than PostMonk, and this article says so.
How we score: Every product carries the overall score from our published review methodology. That rubric weights scheduling and publishing at 25%, channels and integrations at 20%, and content creation at 15%. Analytics takes 15%, ease of use 10%, pricing and value 10%, and support and reputation 5%. The list runs by switching-fit tier first, then by that score. Read the full method at how we review social media management tools.
Why People Switch from Hootsuite
Teams leave Hootsuite over price and billing. Standard costs $99 per user per month, and the free plan was removed in 2022 and gone entirely by 2023. Hootsuite also carries a 1.3 out of 5 Trustpilot score, driven by post-cancellation charges. It still wins on enterprise social listening through Talkwalker, which no tool in this list matches.
Hootsuite earns its enterprise reputation. Talkwalker gives it listening across 150 million sites, more than 30 networks, and more than 187 languages. Hootsuite’s plans matrix caps listening history at 13 months, and its listening page claims 24 months or more. I use the conservative 13-month figure.
Hootsuite holds 4.4 out of 5 on Capterra across 3,799 reviews and carries G2’s #1 Best Software 2026 badge. Hootsuite Academy has certified more than 30,000 marketers.
The switching pressure comes from five specific friction points.
-
Price shock at renewal: Standard is $99 per user per month on annual billing, and monthly billing runs about $149. A Reddit thread on the price increase captured the emotional driver: “my annual cost is about to double from $600US” (r/socialmedia). Two seats on annual billing costs $2,376 a year.
-
Billing and cancellation traps: Hootsuite holds
-
AI that sends people back to ChatGPT: Hootsuite’s AI runs on its own models with metered credits, and there is no bring-your-own-key option. One June 2026 thread asks for “actually usable ai features that dont make me just revert back to gpt and claude” (r/AI_Agents).
-
Approval workflow friction: Hootsuite gates team content approval to the Advanced plan at $399 per user per month. A May 2026 thread put it plainly: “I hate dealing with approvals through hootsuite, looking for alternatives” (r/socialmedia).
-
Silent post failures: Posts fail without any notification, which is an operational risk at $99 per seat. One Capterra reviewer described it exactly: “post would not go out and I would not get any notice” (Capterra, Aaron G.).
Honest carve-out: Hootsuite remains the right tool for enterprise teams that need Talkwalker listening, compliance controls, SSO, and Salesforce integration. Nothing in this list replaces that combination. The nine alternatives below win on price, AI flexibility, approval access, and billing transparency, not on enterprise breadth. See our full Hootsuite review for the complete scorecard.
How to Choose a Hootsuite Alternative
These are the eight criteria I used to score every tool, each tied to a reason people leave Hootsuite.
Pricing model: per seat, per channel, flat, or one time
Per-seat pricing is what makes Hootsuite compound: every new teammate adds $99 per month. Per-channel and per-account pricing (Buffer, Publer) scales with accounts instead of people. Flat pricing (Agorapulse, SocialBee, Metricool) holds steady as the team grows. One-time pricing (PostMonk) removes renewal entirely. Map your growth to the model before you compare headline prices.
Free tier: permanent plan or time-limited trial
Hootsuite removed its free plan in 2022 and closed it out by 2023, so “free” is the most common query attached to this switch. A permanent free plan and a 14-day trial are different products. Only Buffer, Metricool, and Publer run genuinely permanent free plans in this pool. Check the post cap and channel cap, because both are where free plans stop being usable.
AI access: metered credits or bring your own key
Hootsuite meters AI on its own models. If you already pay OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google, a metered tool bills you a second time for the same work. Bring-your-own-key routes generation through your existing account and removes the credit ceiling. PostMonk supports five providers on every plan, and Publer accepts an OpenAI key on its Business tier. Nothing else here offers the option.
Approval workflow: which plan tier includes it
Approval is the single most-gated feature in this category. Hootsuite puts team content approval on Advanced at $399 per user per month. SocialPilot includes client approval on Premium, Agorapulse includes a review step from Standard, and SocialBee requires Accelerate. Confirm the tier before you budget, because the gap between entry and approval tiers is often the real price.
Native platform coverage: which networks publish directly
Direct publishing and reminder-only publishing are not the same capability. Hootsuite covers 10 networks; the tools here range from 8 to 13. Check TikTok, YouTube, Threads, and Bluesky specifically, since those are where coverage differs most. A missing network means one workflow stays manual forever.
Analytics depth: post metrics, competitors, or ad spend
Basic post analytics ship with everything in this category. Competitor tracking, paid ad reporting, and scheduled white-label PDFs do not. Hootsuite reserves custom reporting for Professional at $199 per user per month. Decide whether you need reporting depth or just publishing proof, because that choice moves the price more than any other feature.
Agency features: white-label reports and client access
Agencies leaving Hootsuite are usually leaving Enterprise quotes. White-label PDF reports, client-scoped logins, and multi-brand workspaces are the three capabilities that matter. They appear at very different tiers. PostMonk Agency costs $99 once, SocialPilot Premium costs $100 per month, and Vista Social Scale costs $349 per month.
Billing terms: how cancellation and renewal actually work
This is the criterion most buyers skip and most Hootsuite refugees care about. Read the renewal clause before you sign. Hootsuite Enterprise contracts auto-renew and require 60 days of written notice. Check whether your new tool bills monthly, holds you to an annual term, or charges once.
With those eight criteria set, here is how the tools line up against each other.
Hootsuite Alternatives Compared
Here is how each tool compares to Hootsuite’s Standard plan, which sits in the final row as the benchmark you are leaving.
| Tool | Best For | Starting Price | Native Platforms | Score | Free Plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Publer | Lowest per-account cost | $5/mo (first account) | 13 | 3.9/5 | Yes (3 accounts) |
| PostMonk | AI-forward teams on one-time budgets | $29 one time | 9 | 3.7/5 | No (7-day trial) |
| Buffer | Creators and small teams | Free, then $5/channel/mo | 11 | 3.5/5 | Yes |
| Metricool | Analytics-focused SMBs | Free, then $20/mo | 11 | 3.5/5 | Yes |
| SocialPilot | Agencies needing white-label | $20/mo (Essentials) | 10 | 3.6/5 | No (14-day trial) |
| Agorapulse | Community management teams | $79/mo (annual) | 11 | 3.5/5 | Not listed |
| Vista Social | Highest-scored tool in this pool | $79/mo (Professional) | 13 | 4.0/5 | Not listed |
| SocialBee | Evergreen content recycling | $29/mo, $24.20 annual | 10 | 3.3/5 | No (14-day trial) |
| Later | Instagram-first visual creators | $25/mo, $18.75 annual | 8 | 2.9/5 | Not listed |
| Hootsuite (your current tool) | Enterprise social listening | $99/user/mo (annual) | 10 | 3.6/5 | No (gone since 2023) |
Prices and features were verified directly from each product’s pricing page on 2026-07-28. Hootsuite data comes from Hootsuite’s plans page. Starting prices reflect monthly billing unless noted.
Three-year cost for one user with five social accounts
Headline prices hide the real gap, so I priced the same small setup across all ten tools over 36 months.
| Tool | Entry plan priced | Three-year cost |
|---|---|---|
| PostMonk | Starter, $29 one time, 5 accounts | $29 |
| SocialPilot | Essentials, $17/mo annual, 5 accounts | $612 |
| Later | Starter, $18.75/mo annual, 8 profiles | $675 |
| Metricool | Starter, $20/mo, 5 brands | $720 |
| Publer | Professional, $5 plus four accounts at $4 | $756 |
| SocialBee | Bootstrap, $24.20/mo annual, 5 profiles | $871 |
| Buffer | Essentials, 5 channels at $5/mo annual | $900 |
| Vista Social | Professional, $758/year, 15 profiles | $2,274 |
| Agorapulse | Standard, $79/mo annual, 10 profiles | $2,844 |
| Hootsuite | Standard, $99/user/mo annual, 10 accounts | $3,564 |
Add a second seat and Hootsuite’s three-year figure doubles to $7,128, because it prices per user. PostMonk, Metricool, Agorapulse, and SocialBee do not.
Tools I considered and left out
Five tools appear repeatedly on this SERP without earning a place in the pool. Sprout Social scores 3.9 out of 5 on our rubric, but it starts at $199 per user per month. That is double what you are leaving, so it fails the price trigger that brings most people here. Read our Sprout Social review if enterprise analytics matter more than cost.
FeedHive is the AI pick in Zapier’s roundup. It scores 3.2 out of 5 with us, below every tool in this list except Later, so it did not make the cut. The detail sits in our FeedHive review.
Loomly and Planable both have profiles in our review network, but neither carries a finished score yet. Naming a rank for them would be guesswork, so they wait. Statusbrew ranks well on this query and has no profile with us at all.
One clarification on Publer, which did make the list. Google’s AI Overview quotes it at about $4 per month. That is the rate for each account after the first, and the first account costs $5.
1. Publer: Best for the Lowest Monthly Bill (3.9/5)
Publer is the highest-scoring tool among the Tier 1 switches, and it wins on the least glamorous axis. It does the Hootsuite publishing job for a fraction of the price, with the deepest review record in this pool. It scores 3.9 out of 5, held back by analytics depth rather than by publishing.
Best for: Solo operators and small teams who want the lowest monthly bill without giving up publish reliability.
Key Features
Publer’s feature set is built around reliable publishing at a low per-account rate.
-
Per-account pricing: $5 per month for the first account on Professional, then $4 for each additional one. Extra team members cost $2 per month.
-
13 native networks: More coverage than Hootsuite’s 10, including Mastodon, Telegram, Bluesky, and Threads.
-
Permanent free plan: 3 accounts (X excluded), 10 pending posts per account, and 25 saved drafts.
-
Content recycling: Selected posts repost automatically on a configured interval, which Hootsuite does not offer.
-
Bulk CSV scheduling: Up to 500 posts in one upload, against Hootsuite’s 350 on Advanced and Enterprise.
-
AI Assist with an OpenAI key: The Business tier accepts your own OpenAI API key. No other provider is supported.
Pros
Four points make Publer the cheapest credible exit from Hootsuite.
-
Publish reliability is the most consistent praise signal across more than 2,400 reviews on G2, Capterra, and Trustpilot.
-
Five accounts cost $21 per month against Hootsuite Standard’s $99 for one seat.
-
The free plan covers 3 accounts permanently, so you can test before Hootsuite’s renewal date arrives.
-
Publer partially answers the AI double-billing trigger, since Business accepts your own OpenAI key.
Cons
Four limitations cluster around depth rather than dependability.
-
Analytics sit on the Business tier only, cover Publer-published content only, and have no white-label export.
-
BYOK is OpenAI only. If you standardized on Anthropic Claude, Gemini, or DeepSeek, the option does not exist.
-
The per-account model still compounds at agency scale. One G2 reviewer managing 16 restaurant locations described the bill climbing fast.
-
No social inbox and no social listening, so Hootsuite’s monitoring workflow has no counterpart here.
Pricing
Publer charges a base rate per plan, then adds a per-account and per-member increment.
| Plan | Base price | Per extra account | Per team member | Key features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | n/a | n/a | 3 accounts (no X), 10 pending posts each, 25 drafts |
| Professional | $5/mo | $4/mo | $2/mo | Unlimited scheduling, X support, media library, recycling |
| Business | $10/mo | $7/mo | $3/mo | AI Assist with BYOK, analytics, hashtag tools |
| Enterprise | Custom | n/a | n/a | Volume discounts, dedicated onboarding |
Current figures are on the Publer plans help article.
What Users Say
Publer holds 4.7 out of 5 on G2 from 521 reviews and 4.8 out of 5 on Capterra from 955. Trustpilot adds 4.8 out of 5 from 990 reviews. At more than 2,400 reviews, that is the deepest verified record in this pool.
The recurring critical note is depth, not dependability. One G2 reviewer summarized it as “The analytics are fairly basic… not ideal for deep insights” (Melicia A H., G2). Another flagged scale economics: “The price does get quite high when managing a large volume of accounts” (Carlee L., G2).
For the full evaluation see our Publer review. Its own competitive set is covered in other tools in Publer’s class, and our own comparison is PostMonk vs Publer.
Migrating from Hootsuite to Publer
Four steps move a Hootsuite queue to Publer without a publishing gap.
-
Start on Publer’s free plan and connect three accounts while Hootsuite is still live. Note that X is excluded from the free tier.
-
Export your Hootsuite content calendar to CSV. Hootsuite’s calendar supports CSV and PDF export from the Planner view.
-
Rebuild the schedule with Publer’s bulk CSV upload, which takes up to 500 posts per batch. Publer does not read Hootsuite’s export format directly.
-
Mark your evergreen posts for recycling after scheduling. Recycling is set per post and is never applied automatically on import.
Run the cost math before you cancel. At 10 accounts, Professional costs $5 plus nine increments of $4, which is $41 per month against Hootsuite’s $99 per seat.
2. PostMonk: Best for One-Time Pricing and BYOK AI (3.7/5)
PostMonk answers the two most common Hootsuite complaints directly. You pay once for a workspace instead of monthly per seat. You can also route AI through your own provider key. It scores 3.7 out of 5, behind Publer in Tier 1 and behind Vista Social overall.
Best for: Teams leaving Hootsuite over per-seat costs, and anyone already paying OpenAI, Claude, or Gemini for AI.
Key Features
Six capabilities carry most of the switching case against Hootsuite.
-
Lifetime workspace pricing: Pay once per workspace. Starter is $29, Pro is $59, and Agency is $99. No annual contract, no per-seat scaling, and no renewal date.
-
BYOK AI on all plans: Connect your own OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, or DeepSeek key. There is no credit ceiling when you use your own key. Managed credits are also included (8,000 on Starter, 20,000 on Pro, and 40,000 on Agency).
-
MCP server (Pro and Agency): Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compatible agent can schedule posts, pull analytics, approve drafts, and manage media inside the workspace. Hootsuite has no MCP surface. Buffer and Vista Social do ship one, but Buffer’s is posts only and Vista Social gates it to the $149 Advanced plan.
-
9 native platforms: Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, and Bluesky.
-
Content approval workflow (Pro and Agency): Editors submit, approvers accept or reject with comments, and Agency adds a client-scoped approval portal.
-
Bulk CSV import (Pro and Agency): 500 posts per batch on Pro and 2,000 per batch on Agency, plus 250 and 500 media files per batch.
Pros
Four advantages hold up against Hootsuite specifically.
-
Starter costs $29 once against Hootsuite Standard’s $1,188 per seat per year. Over three years that is $29 against $3,564.
-
BYOK covers five providers on every plan, which is broader than any other tool here.
-
There is no annual contract and no auto-renewal, so the cancellation trap that drives Hootsuite’s Trustpilot score cannot happen.
-
Agency at $99 one time includes white-labeled PDF reports, a custom domain client portal, and client-scoped logins. Hootsuite reserves white-label for Enterprise quotes.
Cons
Four limitations are worth knowing before you switch.
-
No third-party review record. PostMonk had no G2, Capterra, or Trustpilot profile as of 2026-07-28, so its support and reliability scores rest on documentation and hands-on time rather than review volume.
-
No social listening. Hootsuite’s Talkwalker integration has no counterpart here, and competitor benchmarking is still unreleased.
-
No permanent free plan. The 7-day trial is the only zero-cost path, so Buffer, Metricool, and Publer beat PostMonk outright for anyone who needs free forever.
-
Key features sit above Starter. MCP, the REST API, approval workflows, recurring posts, evergreen recycling, and bulk import all require Pro at $59 or higher.
Pricing
PostMonk charges once per workspace, and one payment activates that workspace permanently.
| Plan | One-Time Price | Social Accounts | Team Seats | Brand Assets | Managed AI Credits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $29 | 5 | 1 | 1 | 8,000 |
| Pro | $59 | 25 | 3 | 5 | 20,000 |
| Agency | $99 | 100 | 10 | 25 | 40,000 |
A 7-day trial requires no credit card, and activation carries a 30-day money-back guarantee. See PostMonk pricing for current plan details.
What Users Say
PostMonk is early-stage, and there are no independent reviews on G2 or Capterra as of 2026-07-28. I am not going to fabricate quotes or a review record that does not exist. That absence is a real reason to be cautious, and it is why PostMonk scores 1.5 out of 5 on support and reputation. If you want to judge it directly, start a free trial and test it against your own queue.
For a feature-by-feature look at the two tools, see how PostMonk stacks up against Hootsuite directly.
Migrating from Hootsuite to PostMonk
Here is how to move a scheduled queue from Hootsuite to PostMonk.
-
Export your scheduled queue. Hootsuite’s content calendar supports CSV and PDF export from the Planner view.
-
Check your Hootsuite renewal date before canceling. Cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid another charge.
-
Connect your social accounts in PostMonk under Settings. Facebook and Instagram require a Facebook Business Manager connection.
-
Re-enter your scheduled posts. PostMonk has no direct importer for Hootsuite’s CSV format, so use PostMonk’s own bulk CSV import on Pro or Agency, or re-enter posts manually on Starter.
-
Invite team members and assign roles (Admin, Editor, Viewer, or Client) in your workspace.
The biggest friction point is re-entry time on a large backlog. Plan for it before you cancel Hootsuite, and keep both tools running for one publishing cycle.
3. Buffer: Best for Free Scheduling and Simplicity (3.5/5)
Buffer is the most-cited tool in this category and the one Google’s AI Overview names first for budget switchers. That visibility is earned: a permanently free plan, per-channel pricing that stays cheap for small teams, and an interface that needs no tutorial. It scores 3.5 out of 5, held back by analytics depth rather than by publishing.
Best for: Solo creators, freelancers, and small teams on three or fewer channels who need a zero-cost starting point and a simple scheduling calendar.
Key Features
Six features define what Buffer offers a Hootsuite refugee.
-
Permanent free plan: 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel that refill anytime, 100 ideas, AI Assistant, 30-day analytics history, and a community inbox. No expiry.
-
Per-channel pricing: Paid plans price by channel, not by seat. Two people sharing one Buffer account with 5 channels pay $25 per month on Essentials, against Hootsuite’s $198 per month minimum for two seats.
-
AI Assistant: Built in for captions, post ideas, and replies. It runs on OpenAI’s API with no bring-your-own-key option.
-
Native MCP server on every plan: Buffer runs an MCP server at
-
Approval workflows and branded reports: Both sit on the Team plan at $10 per channel per month, which also includes unlimited team members.
-
11 native platforms: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Bluesky, Google Business Profile, and Mastodon.
Pros
Four points make Buffer the default free recommendation here.
-
The free plan is permanent, and 3 channels with 10 refillable posts each is a real operating capability rather than a teaser.
-
G2 4.3 out of 5 (1,039 reviews) and Capterra 4.5 out of 5 (1,492 reviews) give Buffer a deep, established review record.
-
Per-channel pricing is transparent, so you always know exactly what adding a channel costs.
-
Unlimited team members on the Team plan means collaboration does not compound the way Hootsuite seats do.
Cons
Three limitations matter most at scale.
-
Per-channel pricing inverts above 10 channels. Ten channels on Essentials is $50 per month, and agencies running 20 or more accounts pay more than they would on a flat-rate tool.
-
Analytics stop at engagement and audience data. There is no competitor tracking and no ad spend reporting, so Metricool beats Buffer outright on reporting.
-
No BYOK. Buffer’s AI runs on its own credit system, so it does not solve the AI double-billing trigger.
Pricing
Buffer prices per channel, so your cost tracks the number of social accounts you manage.
| Plan | Price per Channel | Team Members | Key Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 1 | 3 channels, 10 posts per channel |
| Essentials | $5/mo (annual) | 1 | Unlimited posts, advanced analytics |
| Team | $10/mo (annual) | Unlimited | Approval workflows, branded reports |
Monthly billing costs more, and annual billing saves about 20%. Volume discounts apply above 10 channels. Verified from Buffer’s pricing page on 2026-07-28.
What Users Say
Buffer holds 4.3 out of 5 on G2 (1,039 reviews) and 4.5 out of 5 on Capterra (1,492 reviews). Reviewers consistently praise the clean interface and reliable publishing, and the recurring criticism is per-channel cost at 10 or more accounts. One Capterra reviewer switching from Hootsuite summed it up: “Buffer offers the same value for half the cost” (Capterra, Zaid E.).
For the full evaluation see our Buffer review. Its own competitive set is covered in other tools in Buffer’s class. The direct matchup is in how Buffer stacks up against Hootsuite, and our own comparison is PostMonk vs Buffer.
Migrating from Hootsuite to Buffer
Five steps cover the move without opening a publishing gap.
-
Connect your channels to Buffer while Hootsuite is still active. Do not let a scheduling gap open between the two.
-
Recreate your saved captions and templates in Buffer’s content library.
-
Check the free plan limits before committing. Buffer’s free plan caps at 10 posts per channel, so decide which channels stay free.
-
Budget for approvals. Buffer’s approval workflow requires the Team plan at $10 per channel per month on annual billing.
-
Cancel Hootsuite only after your first week of Buffer posts has published cleanly.
4. Metricool: Best for Analytics-First Teams (3.5/5)
Metricool’s standout is reporting depth at a price Hootsuite does not approach. Paid plans pull Facebook Ads and Google Ads data into the same dashboard as organic social metrics. Hootsuite reserves custom reporting for Professional at $199 per user per month. Metricool scores 3.5 out of 5 overall, carrying the highest analytics rating in this pool at 5.0.
Best for: SMBs and creators whose daily work is performance data across paid and organic, at a cost well below Hootsuite Standard.
Key Features
Six capabilities explain why analytics buyers land here.
-
Unified paid and organic analytics: Paid plans combine Facebook Ads and Google Ads data with organic social metrics in one dashboard.
-
11 native platforms: Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, and Pinterest, plus Twitch and Google Business Profile, which most schedulers at this price skip.
-
Competitor tracking: Up to 100 competitor profiles on paid plans, and 5 on the free plan.
-
Permanent free plan: 1 brand, 20 posts per month, 5 competitor profiles, and 30-day analytics. LinkedIn and X are excluded from the free tier.
-
AI caption and hashtag generator: Included on all plans. There is no BYOK option.
-
Post approval system: Available on Advanced plans, which start at 15 brands.
Pros
Three advantages are hard to match at this price.
-
Starter at $20 per month for 5 brands delivers reporting that Hootsuite gates behind $199 per user per month. That gap is the whole reason Metricool wins this switch.
-
Eleven networks beats Hootsuite’s 10, and Twitch plus Google Business Profile coverage is rare at this price. Only Publer and Vista Social go broader, at 13 each.
-
The free plan includes genuine analytics rather than a preview, and 5 competitor profiles is enough for a solo operator.
Cons
Five limitations are real and worth weighing.
-
Support is a documented weak point. Metricool scores 2.0 out of 5 on support and reputation in our methodology, a pattern consistent across Capterra, G2, and community forums. If responsive support matters, this is the wrong tool.
-
X/Twitter is a paid add-on on every Metricool plan, so the $20 headline price understates the bill if X is part of your mix.
-
No BYOK AI, so the AI double-billing trigger goes unaddressed.
-
Approvals require an Advanced plan at 15 brands or more, so a small team on Starter cannot run an approval workflow at all.
-
No white-label reporting below the Custom plan, which is quote-only.
Pricing
Metricool prices by the number of brands managed rather than by user seats.
| Plan | Brands | Monthly Price |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 1 | $0 |
| Starter | 5 | $20 |
| Starter | 10 | $36 |
| Advanced | 15 | $53 |
| Advanced | 25 | $85 |
| Advanced | 50 | $159 |
| Custom | Custom | Contact sales |
Annual billing saves up to 24%. Verified from Metricool’s pricing page on 2026-07-28.
What Users Say
Metricool reviewers consistently praise the analytics dashboard and the volume of data available at low price points. The recurring negative theme is support response time, which is what pins its support score at 2.0 out of 5.
For the full evaluation see our Metricool review. Its own competitive set is covered in tools that compete with Metricool. The direct matchup is in Metricool against Hootsuite, and our comparison is PostMonk vs Metricool.
Migrating from Hootsuite to Metricool
Four steps move a Hootsuite setup to Metricool without losing reporting history.
-
Start on Metricool’s free plan and connect one brand while Hootsuite is still live. LinkedIn and X are excluded from the free tier.
-
Export your Hootsuite content calendar to CSV from the Planner view before you cancel anything.
-
Re-enter the queue in Metricool. No published importer reads Hootsuite’s export format, so budget manual entry time.
-
Connect Facebook Ads and Google Ads last. That unified paid and organic view is the reason to move here.
Budget for the X add-on separately, and remember that an approval step needs an Advanced plan at 15 brands.
5. SocialPilot: Best for Agency White-Label Management (3.6/5)
SocialPilot is the strongest agency tool in this pool on the white-label dimension. Its Premium plan includes branded PDF reports and client access portals at $100 per month, while Hootsuite reserves white-label for Enterprise quotes. It scores 3.6 out of 5, matching Hootsuite’s own score and beating it on price by an order of magnitude.
Best for: Small to mid-size agencies managing multiple client accounts who need white-label client reporting without an Enterprise contract.
Key Features
Six features carry the agency case.
-
White-label reports (Premium and above): Branded PDF reports and client dashboards, with advanced white-label on Ultimate.
-
Client approval: Included on Premium, so client sign-off does not need a $399 per user per month plan.
-
Multi-client management: Separate client workspaces run from a single dashboard.
-
Bulk scheduling: Up to 500 posts per CSV upload, available from the Standard plan at $40 per month.
-
10 native platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Pinterest, Bluesky, Threads, YouTube, and Google Business Profile.
-
AI Assistant with credit tiers: 500 credits on Essentials, 1,000 on Standard, 5,000 on Premium, and unlimited on Ultimate. There is no BYOK.
Pros
Four points make SocialPilot the practical agency swap.
-
Essentials starts at $20 per month for 1 user and 5 accounts, against Hootsuite Standard at $99 per user per month.
-
Client approval arrives at $100 per month on Premium. Hootsuite’s comparable team approval starts at $399 per user per month.
-
Ultimate at $200 per month includes unlimited users, which no per-seat tool can match at that price.
-
SocialPilot scores 3.6 out of 5 on our methodology, matching Hootsuite while costing a fraction as much.
Cons
Five limitations should shape which tier you buy.
-
No permanent free plan. A 14-day trial is the only zero-cost entry point.
-
White-label needs Premium at $100 per month. It is not available on Essentials at $20 or Standard at $40.
-
Analytics cover only 5 of the 10 supported networks. TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, Bluesky, and Threads publish but do not report, and there is no social listening.
-
Failed posts generate no alert. SocialPilot carries the same silent-failure problem that drives people off Hootsuite, so the queue needs manual checking.
-
Entry limits are tight at 5 accounts and 1 user on Essentials, so agencies with real rosters start at Standard or Premium.
Pricing
SocialPilot prices by account and user count, with a consistent 15% annual discount.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Accounts | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $20/mo | $17/mo | 5 | 1 |
| Standard | $40/mo | $34/mo | 10 | 3 |
| Premium | $100/mo | $85/mo | 20 | 6 |
| Ultimate | $200/mo | $170/mo | 40 | Unlimited |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Unlimited |
Verified from SocialPilot’s pricing page on 2026-07-28. Google’s AI Overview for “cheaper alternative to hootsuite” also places SocialPilot in the $20 to $30 range, which matches.
What Users Say
SocialPilot earns strong marks for agency usability and white-label report quality. The common criticisms are limited analytics depth and a learning curve on multi-client setup.
For the full evaluation see our SocialPilot review. Its own competitive set is covered in other agency schedulers in SocialPilot’s class, and our comparison is PostMonk vs SocialPilot.
Migrating from Hootsuite to SocialPilot
Four steps carry an agency roster across without a client-facing gap.
-
Start the 14-day trial and connect client accounts while Hootsuite is still publishing.
-
Export your Hootsuite calendar to CSV from the Planner view.
-
Rebuild the schedule with SocialPilot’s bulk uploader, which takes up to 500 posts per file. Bulk scheduling starts on Standard at $40 per month, not on Essentials.
-
Set up client workspaces, approvals, and white-label reports on Premium before you invite any client in.
Check the queue by hand for the first publishing cycle. SocialPilot sends no alert when a scheduled post fails.
6. Agorapulse: Best for Community Management Teams (3.5/5)
Agorapulse is built around its unified social inbox, and that is the reason to pick it over Hootsuite’s stream-based monitoring. If the thing driving you away is comment and DM volume rather than price, this is the closest functional replacement in the pool. It scores 3.5 out of 5, with a strong ease-of-use rating and a weak pricing-value rating.
Best for: Social teams with heavy community management workloads who want one inbox and a review step without an Enterprise contract.
Key Features
Five capabilities define the Agorapulse workflow.
-
Unified social inbox: All messages and organic comments across channels land in one queue from the Standard plan.
-
Assignments and moderation by tier: Post and inbox assignments arrive on Professional at $119 per month. Labels, saved replies, and automated moderation rules arrive on Advanced at $149 per month.
-
Approval and multi-step review: A review step is available from Standard. Full multi-step approvals and custom roles require the Custom plan.
-
11 native platforms: One more than Hootsuite, covering Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, TikTok, and Google Business Profile, with per-network caption and image customization on each post.
-
Reporting: Basic audience and content reports on Standard, advanced reports, ads reports, and ROI analysis on Advanced.
Pros
Four advantages hold up against Hootsuite directly.
-
The unified inbox is faster to work than Hootsuite’s per-stream approach, which is the most consistent theme in G2 feedback for this tool.
-
Pricing is flat per plan rather than per seat, so a three-person team pays $79 per month on annual billing instead of Hootsuite’s $297.
-
Agorapulse scores 4.0 out of 5 on ease of use in our methodology, above the pool average.
-
Every plan includes the mobile app, unified calendar, AI writing assistant, and 24/7 support.
Cons
Four limitations tighten the value case as needs grow.
-
Standard costs $79 per month on annual billing or $99 monthly, and caps at 10 social profiles. Larger rosters hit that ceiling before they hit a seat limit.
-
No free plan appears on Agorapulse’s current pricing page. Older roundups still reference a legacy free tier, but it is not on the live page.
-
Silent post failures are documented here too, usually from expired API tokens. Agorapulse alerts in-app after the failure, not before, so switching for reliability alone does not solve the problem.
-
Pricing value scores 2.5 out of 5 in our methodology. Moving from Standard to Advanced nearly doubles the bill to reach labels, saved replies, and ROI reporting.
Pricing
Agorapulse prices per plan rather than per seat, with a 10-profile cap below the Custom tier.
| Plan | Annual Price | Monthly Price | Profile Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $79/mo | $99/mo | 10 |
| Professional | $119/mo | $149/mo | 10 |
| Advanced | $149/mo | $199/mo | 10 |
| Custom | Tailored | Tailored | Unlimited |
Verified from Agorapulse’s pricing page on 2026-07-28.
What Users Say
Agorapulse scores well for inbox speed and team usability. Agorapulse publishes a G2 comparison claiming 4.5 out of 5 on value against Hootsuite’s 4.2. That figure is vendor-sourced, not independently verified. The common complaint from growing teams is that Professional and Advanced stack up quickly.
For the full evaluation see our Agorapulse review. Its own competitive set is covered in tools that compete with Agorapulse, and our comparison is PostMonk vs Agorapulse.
Migrating from Hootsuite to Agorapulse
Five steps move both the queue and the monitoring setup.
-
Connect all social profiles to Agorapulse while Hootsuite is still active, so no scheduling gap opens.
-
Set up the Agorapulse inbox. Add the same keywords and mention alerts you tracked in Hootsuite’s monitoring streams.
-
Recreate your approval flow. A review step is included from Standard, so basic approvals need no upgrade.
-
Migrate scheduled content. Export your Hootsuite calendar as CSV, then bulk import or re-enter the posts in Agorapulse.
-
Cancel Hootsuite after your first week of Agorapulse posts has run cleanly.
7. Vista Social: Best Reviewer-Rated Option in This Pool (4.0/5)
Vista Social scores highest in this pool, and the methodology requires I say so plainly rather than bury it. It earns 4.0 out of 5 overall, above PostMonk and every other tool here. It also holds 4.8 out of 5 on G2 across 1,114 reviews, the strongest independent rating in this comparison.
Best for: Small teams that want the highest-rated tool in this pool and publish to networks other schedulers skip, including Reddit and Snapchat.
Key Features
Six capabilities set Vista Social apart from the rest of the pool.
-
13 native platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, Reddit, Snapchat, Threads, Tumblr, Google Business Profile, and Bluesky. That ties Publer for the broadest coverage here.
-
Review management: Monitor and reply to reviews from Google Business Profile, Yelp, TripAdvisor, OpenTable, and Trustpilot in the same dashboard as social engagement.
-
MCP, Zapier, and Make integrations: Available from the Advanced plan at $149 per month, which puts agent-driven automation behind the second tier.
-
AI writing and image generation: Built in, with 1,000 AI credits per month on Professional and 2,000 on Advanced.
-
Approval workflows: Included, with white-label setup and client profile connect arriving on Scale.
-
Basic listening on every plan: Expanded listening is a $75 per month add-on, and X access is a $29 per month add-on.
Pros
Four points justify the top score.
-
4.0 out of 5 is the highest Layer-1 score in this pool, above Hootsuite’s 3.6 and PostMonk’s 3.7.
-
4.8 out of 5 on G2 from 1,114 reviews, plus 4.9 out of 5 on Software Advice from 917 reviews, is a deep verified record.
-
Native Reddit publishing is offered by no other tool in this pool, including Hootsuite.
-
Professional includes 2 users and 15 profiles, which is more headroom than Agorapulse Standard at the same headline price.
Cons
Four limitations cut against the score.
-
Vista Social costs far more than most roundups still claim. Professional is $79 per month, not the $15 or $25 figures that circulate widely. At $79 it is not dramatically cheaper than Hootsuite Standard for a single user.
-
There is no mobile scheduling. Vista Social is a desktop workflow, so composing or approving from a phone is not an option.
-
No free plan appears on the current pricing page, so treat it as paid-only until Vista Social publishes one.
-
X access and expanded listening are paid add-ons at $29 and $75 per month, which pushes the real monthly cost above the sticker price for many teams.
Pricing
Vista Social prices per plan, with users, profiles, and AI credits scaling by tier.
| Plan | Monthly Price | Annual Price | Users | Profiles |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Professional | $79/mo | $758/year | 2 | 15 |
| Advanced | $149/mo | $1,430/year | 4 | 30 |
| Scale | $349/mo | $3,638/year | 8 | 70 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Unlimited | Unlimited |
Verified from Vista Social’s pricing page on 2026-07-28. Annual billing saves 20%.
What Users Say
Vista Social holds 4.8 out of 5 on G2 (1,114 reviews) and 4.9 out of 5 on Software Advice (917 reviews). Reviewers cite the AI tools, review management, and feature depth as standout strengths, and the most common criticism is a plain-looking interface.
For the full evaluation see our Vista Social review. Its own competitive set is covered in tools in Vista Social’s class, and our comparison is PostMonk vs Vista Social.
Migrating from Hootsuite to Vista Social
Four steps handle the move, including the add-ons that catch people out.
-
Connect profiles on Professional while Hootsuite is still live. Professional covers 2 users and 15 profiles.
-
Budget the X add-on before you migrate an X queue. X access costs $29 per month on every plan.
-
Export your Hootsuite calendar to CSV from the Planner view, then re-enter posts in Vista Social. No published importer reads Hootsuite’s format.
-
Reset your listening expectations. Basic listening is included, expanded listening is $75 per month, and neither matches Talkwalker.
Composing happens on desktop only, so plan the cutover for a week when nobody needs to schedule from a phone.
8. SocialBee: Best for Evergreen Content Recycling (3.3/5)
SocialBee does one thing no other tool in this pool does at this depth. It schedules by content category, then recycles evergreen posts automatically when a category runs dry. Hootsuite has no equivalent mechanism. It scores 3.3 out of 5 because analytics and collaboration lag behind the recycling engine.
Best for: Content-heavy teams and solo creators with large evergreen libraries who want automated recycling and category-based queues.
Key Features
Five features describe what you actually buy.
-
Category-based scheduling: Assign posts to content categories such as educational, promotional, and engagement, then build a rotating queue per category. Bootstrap includes 10 categories, Accelerate 50, and Pro unlimited.
-
Evergreen recycling: Posts re-queue automatically, so a category that empties refills from its own history.
-
10 native platforms: Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Bluesky, and Google Business Profile. The social inbox covers only 6 of those 10.
-
AI Copilot: Unlimited AI generation on every plan for post ideas and drafts. There is no BYOK.
-
Analytics by tier: 3 months of history on Bootstrap, 2 years on Accelerate, and exportable reports on Pro.
Pros
Four points make the case for content-heavy teams.
-
Category recycling is deeper here than anywhere else in this pool and saves hours of manual re-scheduling each month.
-
Pricing is flat per workspace, so a second team member on Pro does not add to the bill.
-
Bootstrap at $24.20 per month on annual billing is one of the lowest recurring entry points here.
-
SocialBee holds 4.7 out of 5 on G2 across 478 reviews, level with Publer and just behind Vista Social’s 4.8.
Cons
Five limitations keep the score at 3.3.
-
The category engine can fail silently. One misconfigured post inside a category stops that entire category from publishing, with no proactive alert. It is the top-ranked complaint on both G2 and Capterra, and it hits the exact feature you would buy SocialBee for.
-
Post approval requires Accelerate at $49 per month monthly, or $40.83 annual. Bootstrap has no approval step at all.
-
Analytics are shallow next to Hootsuite, Metricool, or Agorapulse, and export is Pro-only.
-
No white-label below the agency tiers, which start at $149.20 per month on annual billing.
-
The 4.7 out of 5 on G2 carries less certainty than Buffer’s. SocialBee’s Trustpilot sits at 3.7 out of 5 from just 56 reviews, a much smaller and less flattering sample.
Pricing
SocialBee lists three core plans plus agency tiers, and monthly billing costs noticeably more than annual.
| Plan | Monthly Price | Annual Price | Users | Profiles |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bootstrap | $29/mo | $24.20/mo | 1 | 5 |
| Accelerate | $49/mo | $40.83/mo | 1 | 10 |
| Pro | $99/mo | $82.50/mo | 3 | 25 |
There is no permanent free plan, and a 14-day trial is the entry point. Verified from SocialBee’s pricing page on 2026-07-28.
What Users Say
SocialBee reviews center on the content category system as the single reason users choose it. Teams without large evergreen libraries find limited value in the category approach, which is the clearest signal about who should skip it.
For the full evaluation see our SocialBee review. Its own competitive set is covered in tools in SocialBee’s class, and our comparison is PostMonk vs SocialBee.
Migrating from Hootsuite to SocialBee
SocialBee needs more setup than the others, because the category model has to be designed first.
-
Start the 14-day trial and connect profiles while Hootsuite is still publishing.
-
Sort your Hootsuite queue into content categories before importing anything. Bootstrap allows 10 categories, Accelerate 50, and Pro unlimited.
-
Bulk-load posts by CSV, which requires Accelerate or above. Bootstrap is manual entry only.
-
Turn recycling on per category once each queue is populated, never before.
Watch the Failed Post Status view through your first full rotation. A single bad post halts its whole category silently.
9. Later: Best for Instagram-First Visual Creators (2.9/5)
Later has the lowest overall score in this pool at 2.9 out of 5. Its pricing-value rating is 2.0, the lowest here, and its support rating is 1.5. It stays in this list for one specific buyer. An Instagram creator who monetizes link-in-bio traffic will not find a better fit in this pool.
Best for: Individual Instagram creators and visual brands who plan a feed grid and use link-in-bio as a primary traffic channel.
Key Features
Five features define Later’s narrow strength.
-
Visual content planner: Drag-and-drop Instagram grid preview, so you see the feed before anything publishes.
-
Linkin.bio: A dedicated link-in-bio landing page. Later created this format and still runs one of the better implementations.
-
8 native platforms: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Snapchat. X/Twitter is not listed on the current pricing page.
-
Post caps by tier: 30 posts per profile per month on Starter, 180 on Growth, and unlimited on Scale.
-
Collaboration and approvals: Internal and external approvals arrive on Growth at $50 per month monthly.
Pros
Four points hold up for the Instagram buyer specifically.
-
Linkin.bio is a genuine differentiator. If Instagram traffic drives revenue, it has direct business value that no other tool here replicates.
-
Starter at $18.75 per month on annual billing is one of the cheapest recurring entry points in this pool.
-
The visual grid preview is the best Instagram planning surface here.
-
Social sets bundle 8 profiles per set, so a single-brand creator gets full network coverage on the entry plan.
Cons
Five limitations should stop most buyers.
-
Instagram carousels, Stories, and Reels publish by notification rather than automatically. On an Instagram-first tool that is the sharpest gap, because you still open the app to finish the post.
-
Lowest overall score in this pool at 2.9 out of 5.
-
Support scores 1.5 out of 5. Trustpilot sits at 1.6 out of 5 across 347 reviews, and 59% of Capterra support mentions are negative.
-
Pricing value scores 2.0 out of 5. Starter caps at 30 posts per profile per month, which a daily poster on three networks will exhaust.
-
No free plan is listed on Later’s current pricing page, and X/Twitter support is not confirmed there either.
Pricing
Later prices by social set, and each set covers 8 profiles.
| Plan | Monthly Price | Annual Price | Users | Social Sets |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $25/mo | $18.75/mo | 1 | 1 (8 profiles) |
| Growth | $50/mo | $37.50/mo | 2 | 2 (16 profiles) |
| Scale | $110/mo | $82.50/mo | 4 | 6 (48 profiles) |
Extra social sets cost $11.25 per month each, and extra users $3.75 per month each. Verified from Later’s pricing page on 2026-07-28.
What Users Say
Later scores well with Instagram creators specifically, and the grid planner and Linkin.bio draw consistent praise. Negative reviews concentrate on support response time and on value once a team grows past a few channels. The 1.5 and 2.0 sub-scores reflect exactly that.
For the full evaluation see our Later review. Its own competitive set is covered in tools in Later’s class, and our comparison is PostMonk vs Later.
Migrating from Hootsuite to Later
Four steps move an Instagram-led setup across.
-
Connect your Instagram Business account and the rest of one social set while Hootsuite is still live. A set covers 8 profiles.
-
Export your Hootsuite calendar to CSV from the Planner view, then re-enter posts in Later. No published importer reads Hootsuite’s format.
-
Check the Starter cap before you commit. Starter allows 30 posts per profile per month, and Growth raises that to 180.
-
Rebuild your link-in-bio page in Linkin.bio, since that is the capability you are moving for.
Keep phone notifications on after the switch. Carousels, Stories, and Reels still need you to finish the post manually.
Verdict
No single tool replaces Hootsuite for everyone. Here is where I would send each type of switcher.
-
If you want the cheapest credible monthly bill: Publer at $5 for the first account and $4 for each extra, with the deepest review record in this pool.
-
If you are leaving over price and want to stop paying rent: PostMonk Starter at $29 one time, or $59 for Pro with approvals, MCP, and bulk import. We built it, and both Publer and Vista Social score higher.
-
If you want the best-reviewed tool here by actual users: Vista Social at 4.0 out of 5 overall and 4.8 out of 5 on G2 across 1,114 reviews.
-
If you need a free plan today: Buffer for 3 channels with no expiry, Metricool for 1 brand with real analytics, or Publer for 3 accounts.
-
If you run an agency and need white-label reports: SocialPilot Premium at $100 per month, or PostMonk Agency at $99 one time if you can live without social listening.
-
If community management is what drove you out: Agorapulse, with the strongest unified inbox here and a review step from the $79 Standard plan.
-
If you have a large evergreen library: SocialBee, whose category-based recycling engine goes deeper than anything else in this pool.
-
If you are an Instagram creator monetizing link-in-bio: Later at $18.75 per month annual, accepting notification-only Reels and a 1.5 out of 5 support score.
-
If you need enterprise social listening, SSO, or compliance controls: Stay on Hootsuite. Talkwalker has no counterpart in this list, and switching would cost you a capability none of these nine replaces.
One caution that applies across the list. Silent post failures are the complaint that drives many people off Hootsuite, and Agorapulse, SocialPilot, and SocialBee carry documented versions of the same problem. Switching for reliability alone is not a safe assumption.
FAQs
What is the best alternative to Hootsuite?
There is no universal answer. Vista Social scores highest overall at 4.0 out of 5 with 4.8 on G2. Publer, PostMonk, and Buffer win on price, Metricool on analytics, SocialPilot on agency white-label, and Agorapulse on community management. Pick the tool that solves the reason you are leaving.
Is Hootsuite no longer free?
Hootsuite removed its free plan in 2022 and discontinued it fully by 2023. The cheapest paid plan is Standard at $99 per user per month on annual billing, or roughly $149 on monthly billing. A 14-day trial is the only free access. Buffer, Metricool, and Publer run permanent free plans today.
What is the best free social media management platform?
Buffer, Metricool, and Publer run the three most usable permanent free plans in this pool. Buffer gives you 3 channels and 10 refillable posts each. Metricool gives you 1 brand and 20 posts per month. Publer gives you 3 accounts, excluding X. Vista Social, still named first in older roundups, lists no free plan today.
Which is better, Hootsuite or Buffer?
For individuals and small teams on three or fewer channels, Buffer is better on price and simplicity. Its free plan replaces a $99 per user per month bill outright. For enterprise teams needing Talkwalker social listening, Hootsuite is the stronger product and Buffer does not compete there. Team size and listening needs decide it.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Hootsuite?
Yes. Every tool in this list costs less than Hootsuite at most team sizes. Publer starts at $5 per month, PostMonk charges $29 once, SocialPilot starts at $20 per month, and Buffer has a free plan. Over three years a single Hootsuite seat costs $3,564 against $612 for SocialPilot Essentials.
How long does it take to migrate from Hootsuite?
Plan one publishing cycle, usually one to two weeks. Connecting accounts takes under an hour on every tool here. The real work is re-entering your scheduled queue, because no tool in this list imports Hootsuite’s CSV format directly. Run both tools in parallel for a week, then cancel once posts publish cleanly.
Does Hootsuite delete my scheduled posts if I cancel?
Export before you cancel. Hootsuite’s content calendar offers CSV and PDF export from the Planner view, and that file is the only copy you control. Cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date. Enterprise contracts auto-renew annually and require 60 days of written notice.
Is Hootsuite still the best?
Hootsuite holds G2’s #1 Best Software 2026 badge and the best social listening in this comparison through Talkwalker. For enterprise teams with those needs, it is a strong choice. For small teams and budget buyers, the 1.3 out of 5 Trustpilot score and $99 per user per month floor make it a poor fit.
Is Meta Suite better than Hootsuite?
Meta Business Suite is free and simpler, but it only publishes to Facebook and Instagram. If those two networks are your entire presence, it replaces Hootsuite at zero cost. If you also post to LinkedIn, TikTok, X, YouTube, or Pinterest, you need a cross-network social media management platform.
Is Sprout Social better than Hootsuite?
Sprout Social starts at $199 per user per month, which is double Hootsuite’s Standard plan. It scores 3.9 out of 5 on our rubric, ahead of Hootsuite’s 3.6, on enterprise analytics and phone support. If cost is why you are leaving Hootsuite, though, Sprout Social is the wrong move.
