Sprout Social Review 2026: Scorecard, Real Costs, and Who Should Skip It

Sprout Social scores 3.9/5 in our review. Best-in-class inbox and analytics, but $199 to $399 per seat and a 5-profile cap on Standard. Full cost math inside.

by Subhana Bintay Azam | 5 August 2026

Sprout Social scores 3.9 out of 5.0 in our review. It runs the strongest social inbox and reporting stack in the category, and it is the hardest one to afford. Published plans run $79 to $399 per seat per month on annual billing.

One number pair explains Sprout Social better than any feature list. It holds 4.4 out of 5.0 on G2 across 6,610 reviews and 1.7 out of 5.0 on Trustpilot across 83. People who use the product rate it highly. People who try to leave rate the contract terms poorly.

The cost detail most reviews skip: the $199 Standard plan still caps you at 5 social profiles. A 3-person team on Standard pays $7,164 a year, and unlimited profiles start at $299 per seat.

Verdict: best-in-category scheduling, inbox, and reporting, priced out of reach for solo creators, small teams, and budget-sensitive buyers.

Here is how Sprout Social scores on each weighted dimension in our methodology.

Dimension Weight Score Notes
Scheduling and Publishing 25% 4.5/5.0 Best-in-class; ViralPost patented; strong calendar and approval workflows; 5-profile cap on Standard
Channels and Integrations 20% 4.0/5.0 11 networks plus 2 messaging apps; CRM integrations require Advanced ($399/seat); no public API, no webhooks, no Zapier, no MCP
Content Creation Tools 15% 3.5/5.0 AI Assist on Professional and up; Canva integration; no BYOK AI; managed-only AI with no model choice
Analytics and Reporting 15% 4.5/5.0 Outstanding and presentation-ready; Forrester-cited 75% reporting time reduction; best-tier features are a paid add-on
Ease of Use 10% 3.5/5.0 Clean, professional UI; feature-heavy for basic scheduling; learning curve for power features
Pricing and Value 10% 2.0/5.0 Per-seat pricing escalates rapidly; essential features tier-gated; add-ons stack; annual lock-in; no free plan
Support and Reputation 5% 3.5/5.0 G2 Leader, Forrester Leader; 30,000+ brands; Enterprise-only priority support; Trustpilot 1.7/5
Overall 100% 3.9/5.0 Premium enterprise tool with genuine capability; pricing model is the single largest barrier

Weighted calculation: 0.25(4.5) + 0.20(4.0) + 0.15(3.5) + 0.15(4.5) + 0.10(3.5) + 0.10(2.0) + 0.05(3.5). That returns 3.85, displayed as 3.9 out of 5.0.

How We Scored Sprout Social

Disclosure: PostMonk, the publisher of this review, sells a competing social media management tool. Sprout Social did not pay for this review, and we received no free access. We scored it against the same rubric we apply to every tool in this category, without adjustment.

We rate every platform across seven weighted dimensions. The evidence is product documentation, the live pricing page, and verified user reviews on G2, Capterra, TrustRadius, Gartner, and Trustpilot. Full detail sits on our how we review social media management tools page.

Pricing and feature claims below were verified against Sprout Social’s own pages on 2026-08-03.

What Is Sprout Social?

Sprout Social is a social media management and intelligence platform serving over 30,000 brands worldwide. It was founded in Chicago in 2010 and went public on Nasdaq (SPT) in 2019. Sprout now positions itself as an “AI-powered Social Intelligence Platform” anchored by its Trellis AI agent.

The platform covers four core pillars: publishing and scheduling, unified engagement through the Smart Inbox, analytics and reporting, and social listening. Listening is sold as a paid add-on and is not included in any base plan. Sprout’s primary market is mid-market and enterprise brands with dedicated social teams. Agencies are a significant second segment.

Sprout holds a Forrester Social Suites Leader designation (Q4 2024) and earns G2 Leader status as of Spring 2026. Marquee customers include Honda, Salesforce, Canva, HP, Atlassian, and Caesars Entertainment.

The business model is per-seat SaaS on default annual billing. Published plans run from $79 to $399 per seat per month. Enterprise pricing is custom.

Who Sprout Social Is NOT For

Sprout Social is a capable platform, but it is the wrong tool for several specific buyer types.

  • Solo creators and freelancers. The per-seat entry floor is $79/month (Essentials) or $199/month (Standard, for inbox access). That is difficult to justify for a one-person operation.
  • Small teams adding seats. Every seat adds the full per-seat price again. “The need to add a second user would have doubled the cost,” one reviewer noted (G2, via competitor research, High confidence).
  • Teams that primarily need basic scheduling. If your workflow is write, schedule, and publish, the platform is “feature heavy if all you really need is basic content scheduling” (HelperMan, YouTube, Jun 2026). You pay for capabilities you never open.
  • Budget-constrained teams. There is no free plan. Annual billing is the default. The commitment risk is real.
  • Developers needing API access. Sprout does not offer a public API. API access requires the Advanced plan at $399/seat/month plus a separate paid add-on conversation. There are no webhooks, Zapier, Make, or n8n integrations on any base plan (sproutsocial.com/faq/).
  • Teams needing flexible billing. Annual commitment with auto-renewal is the default. Cancellation is not prorated.

Sprout Social Features

Publishing and Scheduling

Scheduling is Sprout’s strongest dimension. The Social Media Calendar supports simultaneous scheduling across multiple networks and profiles. It includes a month view and allows external stakeholders to view published and upcoming content.

ViralPost is Sprout’s patented optimal send-time technology. It analyzes 16 weeks of audience engagement data per connected network. It then surfaces the window when your audience is most likely to respond. Sprout’s own research claims this generates “as much as a 60% lift in reach” (High confidence). Selecting a ViralPost time is a one-click action in the composer.

Six further scheduling capabilities round out the publishing surface.

  • Sprout Queue: auto-publishes at preset times or when the audience is most active
  • 13-month scheduling window for long-range content planning
  • Asset Library: centralized media storage with direct imports from Canva, Bynder, Adobe Experience Manager, Dropbox, and Google Drive
  • Campaign Planner: links posts to campaigns for tracking and measurement
  • SproutLink: a visual link-in-bio landing page for Instagram
  • Social Commerce: product tags and shopping links for Shopify, WooCommerce, and Facebook Shops, on Professional and Advanced only

Approval workflows are built directly into scheduling. Posts route through internal team approval or external client approval before publishing. Multi-approver flows with unanimous-approval requirements are supported.

One profile limit to know before signing up: both Essentials ($79/seat) and Standard ($199/seat) allow a maximum of 5 social profiles. Unlimited profiles require Professional at $299/seat/month.

Smart Inbox and Engagement

The Smart Inbox is consistently the most-praised feature in the Sprout Social product. It consolidates every incoming message, comment, direct message, and review from all connected networks into a single stream. There is no need to switch between tabs or platforms to manage conversations.

“What I like most is the smart inbox feature,” one reviewer who tested the platform for six months wrote (HelperMan, YouTube, Jun 2026). That sentiment appears across thousands of G2 reviews and multiple customer case studies.

Seven capabilities sit inside the Smart Inbox, and most of the advanced ones are tier-gated.

  • Review Management: surfaces reviews from Apple App Store, Yelp, Google Business Profile, Tripadvisor, Glassdoor, Trustpilot, and Facebook into the same inbox stream
  • Salesforce Agentforce integration: centralizes Sprout and Salesforce conversations into a single view (Advanced plan only)
  • Message Spike Alerts: detects when brand mentions surge, enabling faster crisis response (Advanced plan only)
  • Bot Builder: rules-based chatbots for Facebook Messenger and X DMs
  • Sentiment analysis: AI-powered sentiment tagging on messages and reviews (Advanced plan only)
  • Message tagging and case assignment: routes messages to specific team members and tags them for reporting (Professional plan and up)
  • Team productivity reports: tracks response times and agent-level performance (Advanced plan only)

The Papa Johns case study shows what the Smart Inbox enables at scale. The chain consolidated messages from multiple platforms into Sprout and cut social response time in half. Papa Johns now manages 600 or more cases per week through the inbox (Dec 2025, High confidence).

Analytics and Reporting

Analytics is Sprout’s second-strongest dimension. Standard reports include Network, Profile, Post, Paid Performance, Competitor, Hashtag, Tag, and Case Team Activity views. Competitor reports and share-of-voice analysis start at the Professional tier ($299/seat).

One reviewer who used the platform for six months called the reports “detailed, visually clean and very useful” (HelperMan, Jun 2026). They cover audience engagement, content performance, and long-term growth trends. They require minimal setup and export to presentation-ready formats.

A Forrester Total Economic Impact study, commissioned by Sprout, found a 233% ROI and a 75% reduction in monthly reporting time. These numbers come from a vendor-commissioned study. Treat them as directional, not universal.

Premium Analytics is a paid add-on available from the Standard plan onward. It adds Report Builder with selectable metrics, AI-assisted performance summaries (Analyze by AI Assist), custom timeframe comparisons, and shareable report links. The core analytics package is strong. The best-tier reporting features cost extra, on top of the per-seat subscription.

AI and Automation

Sprout’s AI layer is branded Trellis, which Sprout positions as a strategic AI teammate. Trellis accepts natural-language questions about your social data and returns insights without manual report-building. Trellis Studio adds scheduled tasks and a skills dashboard.

The AI Assist suite breaks down by plan, and the useful writing features sit high in the stack.

  • Enhance Post by AI Assist: caption suggestions and copy refinement (Professional plan, $299/seat, and above)
  • Enhance Reply by AI Assist: alternative tone suggestions for replies (Advanced plan, $399/seat, and above)
  • AI-generated alt text: unlimited, available from Standard plan ($199/seat)
  • Analyze by AI Assist: widget-level performance summaries (Premium Analytics paid add-on)

What Sprout’s AI does not offer matters just as much. There is no bring-your-own-key option, no model selection, and no integration with external AI providers. The AI is fully managed by Sprout with no user choice on the underlying model. G2 reviewers have asked for more, wishing the platform “used more AI integrations to make suggestions about content” (High confidence). AI caption assistance is also gated to Professional and above, so Essentials and Standard users cannot reach it.

Bot Builder handles rules-based chatbot responses on Facebook Messenger and X DMs. Automated Inbox Rules allow auto-categorizing, routing, and flagging inbound messages.

Social Listening

Social Listening is a paid add-on, available from the Standard plan and above. It is not included in any base plan at any price.

The Listening add-on covers six research areas.

  • Query builder for brand, competitor, or topic monitoring
  • Consumer research: demographics, interests, and geographic breakdowns
  • Brand health tracking
  • Share-of-voice and competitive comparison
  • Sentiment research and campaign analysis
  • Influencer identification

Sprout claims the Listening module processes up to 50,000 posts per second and an average of 600 million messages per day. Source networks include Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, Tumblr, web, X, and YouTube (sproutsocial.com/features/social-media-listening/, High confidence).

Pricing is not publicly listed. Third-party sources estimate around $999/month (Low confidence on the exact figure; this is a sales-quoted add-on).

User reports are more mixed than the marketing suggests. “Social Listening seems very basic, and not as advanced as other tools” (Capterra reviewer, High confidence). “Listening does not really perform in the way it’s sold” (G2 reviewer, High confidence). A social media manager in a community discussion called Sprout Social “too basic for advanced social listening” (Medium confidence). The feature exists, but it underdelivers relative to its positioning and price.

Sprout Social Ease of Use

The interface is genuinely clean. The main navigation covers four clear areas: Publish, Engage, Reports, and Listening. Each section is logically organized. The layout communicates what each area does without requiring a separate tutorial.

Scheduling is smooth for teams managing multiple networks. Select your profiles, write your caption, and preview how it renders on each network. Schedule manually or let ViralPost suggest the optimal slot. The flow is familiar to anyone who has used a social scheduler before.

The Smart Inbox is the interface highlight. Every message from every connected network appears in one stream. Filters, tags, and assignments are accessible without changing screens. For a customer care team handling hundreds of daily messages, this removes real friction.

Standard reports run with one click. The output is clean enough to share with a client or executive without additional formatting work.

“The entire platform feels organized,” one reviewer who used Sprout for six months noted. “Scheduling, analytics, and engagement management are built in a very clean and professional way” (HelperMan, Jun 2026). That matches what G2 and Capterra consistently report: above-average user-friendliness relative to category peers.

The difficulty appears when you go deeper. Sprout’s documented surface runs to roughly 64 main features across eight categories. New users encounter decision fatigue. Setting up approval workflows, configuring Inbox Rules, and learning the permission hierarchy takes real investment. “A lot of features to learn and sometimes it can feel overwhelming” (Capterra reviewer, High confidence).

Some Gartner reviewers rate usability lower, citing “poor usability” alongside cost and paywalled features (Gartner Peer Insights, 4.1/5.0 across 233 reviews). That is not the majority signal on G2 or Capterra. It is worth weighing on a large enterprise evaluation.

The honest summary is a split. Teams that use the inbox, approvals, and reporting daily get an excellent interface. Teams that only publish pay for a platform far larger than their workflow.

Sprout Social Pricing

Pricing is where Sprout Social’s scores drop sharply. The features are good. The pricing model makes those features expensive to access.

Plan Breakdown

All prices are per seat, per month, billed annually. Prices live-verified from sproutsocial.com/pricing/ on 2026-08-03.

Plan Annual Price (per seat/mo) Monthly Price (per seat/mo) Social Profiles Key Inclusions
Essentials $79 $99 5 ViralPost optimal times; basic profile and post reporting; mobile app; no Smart Inbox; no keyword monitoring
Standard $199 n/a 5 Smart Inbox; keyword and location monitoring; review management; unlimited AI-generated alt text
Professional $299 n/a Unlimited Competitor and paid performance reports; Enhance Post by AI Assist; message tagging; Campaign Planner
Advanced $399 n/a Unlimited Sentiment analysis; Message Spike Alerts; API access (as add-on); helpdesk integrations (Salesforce, Zendesk); productivity reports; Enhance Reply by AI Assist
Enterprise Custom Custom Unlimited All Advanced features; SSO; white-glove onboarding; priority customer support; tailored enterprise plan

Three things every buyer should know before choosing a plan.

  • Essentials ($79) is severely limited. No Smart Inbox, no keyword monitoring, and no review management. Most buyers evaluating Sprout for team use will find Essentials insufficient.
  • Standard ($199) caps at 5 social profiles. A social media manager with six client accounts must upgrade to Professional at $299/seat/month.
  • Monthly billing is available on Essentials only. Standard, Professional, and Advanced require an annual commitment upfront.

Add-On Costs

The base plan price is only the floor. Six of Sprout’s most-marketed capabilities are sold as separate paid add-ons on top of the per-seat subscription.

  • Listening: any Standard plan or higher; sales-quoted with no public pricing; third-party estimates suggest around $999/month
  • Premium Analytics: Standard plan and up; no public pricing
  • Employee Advocacy: Standard plan and up; no public pricing
  • Professional Services (Premier Success): multiple package levels; Standard plan and up
  • Sprout API: Advanced plan only; still requires a separate paid add-on conversation to activate
  • Influencer Marketing: standalone product with no base plan requirement

The “all-in-one” positioning is accurate only if you budget for all the add-ons. For a mid-market team wanting publishing, inbox, reporting, and listening, the base plan starts the invoice but does not end it.

How Much Does Sprout Social Cost for a Team?

Here is what Sprout Social actually costs at common team sizes, using the live-verified pricing above.

Team and plan Per seat/month Annual total What that buys
1 seat, Standard $199 $2,388 Smart Inbox, 5 profiles
3 seats, Standard $199 $7,164 Smart Inbox, 5 profiles
4 seats, Standard $199 $9,552 Smart Inbox, 5 profiles
3 seats, Professional $299 $10,764 Unlimited profiles, competitor reports, AI captions
3 seats, Professional plus Listening $299 plus add-on roughly $22,000 to $23,000 Adds social listening at a sales-quoted price

The Listening line uses the third-party $999/month estimate and is the least certain row. Everything above it comes straight off the pricing page.

Users in community discussions corroborate this range. “They are so pricey, we’re paying around 4k a MONTH!” one social media manager wrote (Medium confidence). Another described paying “over $20K a year” for a 3-person-team setup (Medium confidence).

The annual commitment adds a final layer of risk. Sprout billing is not prorated on cancellation. “Cancel Sprout before the renewal date; they don’t pro-rate,” a social media manager in a scheduling community warned (Medium confidence, April 2026). Trustpilot reviews document customers charged after cancellation requests, with auto-renewal continuing through the annual term.

Sprout Social Pros

Sprout Social earns its strongest marks on engagement, scheduling, and reporting. Seven strengths hold up against the evidence.

  • Smart Inbox is the best unified inbox in the category. It pulls messages, comments, DMs, and reviews from 11-plus networks into one stream. It is the most-praised capability across 6,610 G2 reviews and Sprout’s own case studies. “The Smart Inbox is my favorite thing ever” (KISS, via Sprout Social, High confidence).
  • ViralPost optimal send times are patented and data-driven. The model analyzes 16 weeks of audience engagement data per connected network. Sprout’s publishing page claims as much as a 60% lift in reach.
  • Analytics and reporting are best in category. Reports are presentation-ready and need little manual assembly. A commissioned Forrester TEI study cited a 75% reduction in monthly reporting time. Standard reports cover most team needs without add-ons.
  • Approval workflows are excellent for team and agency use. Internal approvals, external client approvals, multi-approver flows, and granular permissions are built in (copywritersnow.com, Jul 2026; HelperMan, Jun 2026).
  • Network and integration coverage is broad. Sprout publishes to 11 networks and handles WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Canva, Adobe Express, Bynder, Dropbox, and Google Drive are available on every plan.
  • Enterprise credibility is real. Sprout holds Forrester Social Suites Leader status (Q4 2024) and G2 Leader status (Spring 2026). Its customer list spans 30,000-plus brands including Honda, Salesforce, and Atlassian.
  • The 30-day free trial asks for no payment details. You get genuine access to the platform before any commitment.

Sprout Social Cons

Every limitation below traces to Sprout’s own documentation, its pricing page, or verified user reviews. Eight are worth weighing before you sign.

  • Per-seat pricing climbs in a straight line with headcount. Three users on Standard costs $7,164 a year. A fourth seat takes it to $9,552, and a fifth to $11,940. “The cost of additional users is extremely high” (G2 reviewer, High confidence).
  • Essential features sit behind higher tiers. Unlimited profiles and AI caption help require Professional at $299 per seat. Sentiment analysis and API access require Advanced at $399 per seat. Sprout’s own pricing page is the source (High confidence).
  • The “all-in-one” platform is not truly all-in-one. Listening, Premium Analytics, and Employee Advocacy are separate paid add-ons. No base plan includes them at any price.
  • Annual billing carries auto-renewal risk. Cancellation is not prorated. Auto-renewal charges after cancellation requests are documented on Trustpilot (1.7/5.0 across 83 reviews, dominated by billing complaints) and GetApp.
  • There is no public API, no webhooks, and no Zapier or n8n integration. API access requires the Advanced plan at $399 per seat plus a sales-activated add-on. Sprout’s FAQ states plainly that it has no public API at this time (High confidence).
  • Social listening underdelivers against its marketing. “Does not really perform in the way it’s sold” (G2 reviewer, High confidence). “Too basic for advanced social listening” (social media manager in a community discussion, Medium confidence).
  • Support quality varies by plan. Priority support is an Enterprise-only feature. Trustpilot reviewers describe Sprout as “impossible to get hold of” on billing and cancellation (Jul 2026, High confidence).
  • The composer cannot customize a post per network. One session applies the same content to every selected network. Per-network customization is not available in the post composer (copywritersnow.com, Jul 2026, High confidence).

Sprout Social User Reviews

Review sentiment for Sprout Social follows a clear bimodal pattern: strong satisfaction on feature capability, sharp dissatisfaction on commercial terms. Both halves of this split are real. They reflect different populations.

Platform Rating Reviews Signal
G2 4.4/5.0 6,610 Consistent capability praise; “Expensive” is the #1 dislike with 388-plus mentions
Capterra 4.4/5.0 575+ Value-for-money is the lowest-rated sub-score at 4.0/5.0
TrustRadius 8.4/10 500+ Strong enterprise representation; detailed feature-level reviews
Gartner 4.1/5.0 233 Some reviewers cite “expensive, hides advertised features behind paywalls”
Trustpilot 1.7/5.0 83 Dominated by billing, auto-renewal, and customer support complaints

See Sprout Social reviews on G2 for the full review dataset.

G2, Capterra, and TrustRadius capture active users who chose Sprout and use it regularly. Those reviewers rate the product highly because the core features work. Trustpilot skews toward customers who hit billing problems, auto-renewal charges, or difficulty reaching support when trying to cancel. Both data sets are valid. They are measuring different things.

Three positive reviews, quoted verbatim:

  • “The Smart Inbox is my favorite thing ever.” (KISS, via Sprout Social, High confidence)
  • “I’ve used Sprout Social at every company I’ve worked at since 2013. No other social management platform matches its extensive capabilities.” (Bridgett Colling, 5-star Trustpilot review, High confidence)
  • “The tools are great and help me stay organized across a dozen accounts and nearly 40 individual channels across Meta, TikTok, X, and more.” (Social media manager in a community discussion, Medium confidence)

Six critical reviews, quoted verbatim:

  • “Very expensive for what it does.” (G2 reviewer, High confidence)
  • “Listening does not really perform in the way it’s sold.” (G2 reviewer, High confidence)
  • “Always a glitch with the mobile app… app crashes.” (G2 reviewer, High confidence)
  • “They are impossible to get hold of and despite multiple chases all have had no luck.” (Trustpilot, Jul 2026, High confidence)
  • “They are so pricey, we’re paying around 4k a MONTH!” (social media manager in a community discussion, Medium confidence)
  • “Cancel Sprout before the renewal date; they don’t pro-rate.” (social media manager in a community discussion, April 2026, Medium confidence)

The pattern across 8,000-plus reviews is consistent. Teams using Sprout at a level that justifies the per-seat cost tend to rate it highly. Teams that hit the pricing ceiling, encounter billing friction, or need support as non-Enterprise customers tell a different story.

Is Sprout Social Worth It?

Sprout Social scores 3.9 out of 5.0. It earns those points on feature quality: the Smart Inbox, ViralPost scheduling, and analytics depth are genuinely strong at their respective tiers. The Pricing and Value score of 2.0/5.0 pulls the overall down. Per-seat billing, tier-gating, and add-on stacking push real costs well above the base plan.

Choose Sprout Social if any of the following describe you.

  • Your team has three or more seats and a social budget above $10,000/year
  • You need the Smart Inbox for customer care volume across multiple channels
  • You need presentation-ready analytics for regular stakeholder or executive reporting
  • You manage enterprise clients who require structured approval workflows and client-facing reports
  • You have Salesforce integration requirements in your workflow

Look elsewhere if any of the following describe you.

  • You are a solo creator, freelancer, or small team where per-seat cost is your primary concern
  • Your workflow is primarily scheduling rather than enterprise customer care
  • You need API access, Zapier integrations, or developer-facing automation without paying Advanced-tier prices
  • Your annual social tool budget is under $5,000
  • You cannot commit to an annual contract with no proration on cancellation

Considering an Alternative?

Sprout Social’s scores reflect a capable platform. The scheduling, inbox, and analytics genuinely work well for the teams they are designed for.

The constraint is budget math. Per-seat pricing at $199 to $399 per month means a 3-person team pays $7,000 to $14,000 per year before any add-ons. For teams primarily using publishing, approvals, and reporting, a significant share of that spend covers capabilities they never open.

If that describes your situation, PostMonk is worth a look. PostMonk is an AI-first social media management tool with lifetime pricing: $29 (Starter), $59 (Pro), or $99 (Agency), paid once per workspace. No monthly bill, no seat charges, and no renewal dates to track.

Every PostMonk plan includes three things Sprout gates or omits.

  • Bring-your-own-key AI using your own OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, OpenRouter, or DeepSeek key
  • Publishing, scheduling, queues, and a shared content calendar
  • Workspace isolation, so each brand or client stays in its own sealed environment

Pro and Agency add approval workflows, per-platform content overrides, a REST API, webhooks, and a native MCP server for AI agent operation. Agency adds client approval portals, a custom domain, and white-labeled PDF reports.

PostMonk does not have an enterprise-scale Smart Inbox for high-volume customer care, a social listening module, or Salesforce integration. It is built for teams that primarily need scheduling, content workflows, and approvals. It is not a drop-in replacement for Sprout’s enterprise customer care capabilities.

FAQs

Is Sprout Social free?

No. Sprout Social does not offer a free plan. A 30-day free trial is available with no payment details required. Paid plans start at $79/seat/month (Essentials, annual billing) or $199/seat/month (Standard, annual billing).

How much does Sprout Social cost per month?

Plans start at $79/seat/month (Essentials, annual billing). Standard costs $199/seat/month, Professional costs $299/seat/month, and Advanced costs $399/seat/month. A 3-person team on Standard pays $7,164/year before any add-ons. Enterprise pricing requires a sales conversation.

Is Sprout Social worth it?

Sprout Social is worth the investment for mid-market and enterprise teams that need a unified inbox, deep analytics, and stakeholder-ready reporting. For solo creators, small teams, or anyone primarily needing scheduling, the per-seat cost is difficult to justify. Our verdict: 3.9/5.0.

What companies use Sprout Social?

Sprout Social counts Honda, Salesforce, Canva, HP, Atlassian, and Caesars Entertainment among its customers. More than 30,000 brands use the platform in total. It is most widely deployed in mid-market and enterprise organizations with dedicated social teams.

Is Sprout Social good for agencies?

Sprout Social has strong agency features: per-client groups, approval workflows, client-ready reports, and separate environments for each client. However, the per-seat pricing model means adding team members multiplies costs quickly. Smaller agencies often shop for flat-rate or per-workspace pricing instead.

Does Sprout Social have a free trial?

Yes. Sprout Social offers a 30-day free trial on all plans, and no payment details are required to start it.

Can I cancel Sprout Social?

Yes, you can cancel from your account settings. Sprout Social uses annual billing by default, and billing is not prorated on cancellation. You remain billed until your annual term ends. Multiple users report auto-renewal charges after starting cancellation requests, so check your renewal date first.

Does Sprout Social have an API?

Sprout Social does not have a public API. API access is available as a paid add-on on the Advanced plan ($399/seat/month) and requires a conversation with Sprout’s support team. There are no public webhooks, Zapier, Make, or n8n integrations at any base plan tier.

What is the difference between Sprout Social and Hootsuite?

Both are enterprise social media management platforms with per-seat pricing. Sprout Social’s Smart Inbox and analytics depth rate higher on G2 and Capterra. Hootsuite includes basic listening on its $99 Standard plan, while Sprout sells listening only as an add-on. Hootsuite reserves premium Talkwalker listening for Enterprise. Our Hootsuite vs Sprout Social breakdown covers the pairing in full.

Is Sprout Social good for small businesses?

Sprout Social can work for small businesses, but per-seat pricing is a common barrier. A 2-person team on Standard pays $4,776/year before add-ons. Sprout’s own SMB page cites “nearly 10,000 small and medium-sized businesses” as customers. For tools priced at smaller-team levels, see our guide to the best social media management tools.
