Hootsuite scores 3.6 out of 5 on our seven-category rubric. Metricool scores 3.5. That 0.1 gap hides two products built for opposite problems: Hootsuite wins on breadth and coordination, Metricool wins on measurement and price.
Metricool is the pick for solo operators, small teams, and agencies whose main deliverable is a client report. Hootsuite is the pick for multi-seat teams that need approval workflows, enterprise listening, and compliance controls. Cost decides it for most buyers, at $20 per month against $99 per user per month.
Below: both scorecards and a verdict on each of the seven categories. Then live 2026 pricing, the add-ons that change the total, and the pick by team size.
Metricool vs Hootsuite: The Short Answer
The two tools solve different halves of the same job. Metricool is a measurement product with a scheduler attached. Hootsuite is a coordination product with listening and governance attached.
Metricool organizes everything around a “brand,” meaning one client or business with one profile per network. That model makes multi-brand reporting cheap and multi-brand teamwork manual. Hootsuite organizes everything around seats and streams. That model makes approvals, routing, and compliance native, and makes every extra person expensive.
Here is how the two score across the seven categories in our rubric.
| Category | Weight | Metricool | Hootsuite |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduling and publishing | 25% | 3.5/5 | 3.5/5 |
| Supported channels and integrations | 20% | 4.0/5 | 4.5/5 |
| Content creation tools | 15% | 2.5/5 | 4.0/5 |
| Analytics and reporting | 15% | 5.0/5 | 4.0/5 |
| Ease of use | 10% | 3.5/5 | 3.0/5 |
| Pricing and value | 10% | 3.0/5 | 2.0/5 |
| Support and reputation | 5% | 2.0/5 | 2.5/5 |
| Overall | 100% | 3.5/5 | 3.6/5 |
Hootsuite takes the overall by 0.1, carried by channel breadth and content tooling. Metricool takes the two categories most buyers in this matchup actually shop on. Its 5.0 on analytics is the highest score we have awarded any scheduler, and it beats Hootsuite on pricing and value by a full point.
How we score: we rate every scheduling tool from 1.0 to 5.0 across seven weighted categories, then take the weighted average. Scheduling carries 25 percent and channels 20 percent. Content tools and analytics take 15 percent each, ease of use and pricing 10 percent each, and support 5 percent. Read our full review methodology for the rubric and the evidence rules.
Disclosure: PostMonk publishes this comparison and builds a competing scheduler. Neither vendor paid for it or reviewed it before publication. Both were scored against the rubric we apply to every tool in this category, and pricing was verified on 8 August 2026.
What Is Metricool?
Metricool is an analytics-first social media management platform, and it scores 3.5 out of 5 on our rubric. It serves freelancers, social media managers, and small to mid-sized agencies that report to clients.
Metricool launched in Madrid in 2014 and was acquired by the European hosting group team.blue in 2024. It reports 3.5 million users across 11 social networks and 3 ad platforms.
Its strength is measurement. Organic social, website traffic, and paid ad results from Meta, Google, and TikTok land in one dashboard. Reports export as branded PDF or PPT files in one click, and competitor benchmarking is included from the $20 per month Starter plan.
Metricool fits three situations well. Client reporting is your main deliverable, you run paid and organic campaigns together, or you manage 1 to 50 brands on a fixed budget. It fits badly when X/Twitter is central, because every plan charges a per-account add-on.

What Is Hootsuite?
Hootsuite is an enterprise social media management and social intelligence platform, and it scores 3.6 out of 5 on our rubric. It serves mid-market and enterprise teams running many accounts across many people.
Hootsuite launched in Vancouver in 2008 and states it has served more than 25 million users. It acquired Talkwalker in April 2024 to add enterprise listening. In June 2026 it launched Social OS, an AI-native suite built around an agent called Wisdom.
Social OS splits the platform into four products. Perch handles publishing and planning, Nest handles customer care, Parliament handles employee advocacy, and Lumen carries Talkwalker’s social intelligence.
Its strength is coordination at scale. Approval workflows, message routing, team performance reporting, and compliance credentials including FedRAMP, FCA, IIROC, SEC, and PCI are the reason large organizations stay. Hootsuite removed its free plan in 2022, so a 14-day trial with no credit card is now the only free evaluation path.

Two rows in that table deserve expanding, because presence and capability are not the same thing. Both vendors now ship Model Context Protocol servers.
Metricool’s server works on every plan including Free, but it only writes by scheduling or updating a post. Hootsuite’s three servers publish, triage the inbox, and query listening data. They require a paid seat from $99 per user per month. Neither tool lets you connect your own AI model key.
Scheduling and Publishing
Scheduling and publishing carries 25 percent of the score, the heaviest weight in our rubric, and both tools land on 3.5 out of 5. They earn the same number for opposite reasons: Metricool is cleaner to operate, and Hootsuite moves more volume.
Metricool Scheduling
Metricool runs a drag-and-drop Planner across every connected network, with best-time-to-post recommendations built from each account’s own engagement history. Autolists handle evergreen recycling, recurring posts, and RSS-driven queues.
The gaps are real. Bulk CSV import requires an Advanced plan at $53 per month, so Starter subscribers add posts one at a time. TikTok and YouTube Shorts auto-publish failures recur in verified user reports, which is why this category does not score higher.
Hootsuite Scheduling
Hootsuite includes bulk scheduling on every paid plan, accepting up to 350 posts per CSV upload. That single limit is the clearest reason high-volume publishers stay. Optimal Time scheduling is available across plans, and content streams let a team watch live activity beside the calendar.
Approval workflows and message routing are the coordination layer, and they sit on the Advanced plan at $399 per user per month. External client approval portals require Enterprise.
Silent post failures without an error notification recur in Capterra reviews and community threads. Account disconnections that need manual reconnection are a documented pattern rather than an edge case.
Verdict: Scheduling and Publishing
Both score 3.5. Metricool wins for teams of one to three people who value a clean calendar and evergreen recycling over throughput. Hootsuite wins for teams pushing hundreds of posts per cycle who need CSV bulk upload on the entry plan. Neither is reliable enough on auto-publish to earn a 4.0, and both carry documented failure reports.
Social Networks and Integrations
Hootsuite wins channels and integrations at 4.5 out of 5 against Metricool’s 4.0, a category carrying 20 percent of the score. Metricool covers one more network; Hootsuite covers its networks more deeply and surrounds them with more connective tissue.
Metricool: Networks and Integrations
Metricool publishes to 11 networks: Instagram, Facebook Pages and Groups, X/Twitter, LinkedIn profiles and pages, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, Google Business Profile, and Twitch. Google Business Profile and Twitch are the two Hootsuite does not carry, and both matter for local businesses and streamers.
Two access routes sit on top. A REST API with Zapier and Make connectors arrives on Advanced and Custom plans. An open-source MCP server works on every plan including Free, exposing more than 20 tools that cover brands, analytics, best-time-to-post, and per-network post retrieval.
That MCP surface is read-heavy by design. Only scheduling and updating a post write anything back. An agent can analyze an account thoroughly, but it cannot manage media, run approvals, or apply templates.
Hootsuite: Networks and Integrations
Hootsuite publishes to 10 native networks: Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, WhatsApp Business, and Bluesky. WhatsApp Business is the one Metricool cannot reach. The App Directory adds more than 100 third-party integrations on top.
Agent access changed materially in June 2026. Hootsuite now ships three MCP servers: Perch for publishing, Nest for inbox triage, and Lumen for listening. They connect to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot, and they act rather than only read.
The gap is developer access. Hootsuite publishes no public REST API or webhook product for end users, so custom automation routes through Zapier, Make, or an MCP client.
Verdict: Networks and Integrations
Hootsuite wins at 4.5 against 4.0 for teams that need WhatsApp Business or a large app directory. It also wins for teams that want agents to act across publishing, inbox, and listening. Metricool wins for local businesses and streamers who need Google Business Profile or Twitch. It also wins for developers who want a documented REST API without an enterprise contract.
Content Tools and AI
Hootsuite wins content creation at 4.0 out of 5 against Metricool’s 2.5, the widest category gap in this comparison and 15 percent of the score. Metricool’s 2.5 is not about AI quality. It is about what is missing around the composer.
Metricool Content Tools
Metricool’s composer covers per-network previews, hashtag suggestions, and a built-in AI assistant. The AI is credit-metered at 5 credits per month on Free, 20 on Starter, and 35 on Advanced. Those Starter and Advanced allowances were cut sharply during 2026. There is no bring-your-own-key option, so heavy users exhaust the allowance on every plan.
The bigger gap is storage. Metricool has no media library for your own reusable assets, so brand images and video are re-uploaded per post or managed outside the tool. Live campaign hashtag monitoring is a separate paid add-on called Hashtag Tracker. Smartlinks, a link-in-bio page with click analytics, is included on all plans.
Hootsuite Content Tools
Hootsuite runs OwlyGPT for drafting and rewriting, joined in June 2026 by the Wisdom agent, which is available across paid plans. Blue Silk AI, powered by Talkwalker, handles sentiment and image detection and is confined to Enterprise.
The composer carries a media library, per-network customization, and AI image generation from the publishing interface. Hootsuite’s AI runs entirely on its own proprietary models. There is no bring-your-own-key option here either, so the same metered ceiling applies.
Verdict: Content Tools and AI
Hootsuite wins at 4.0 against 2.5 for any team that stores and reuses brand assets. It also wins for teams wanting an AI agent in the composer rather than a credit allowance. Metricool wins only for solo operators who write their own captions and need a link-in-bio page. Neither tool supports bring-your-own-key AI, so both charge for model access you may already be paying a provider for.
Analytics and Reporting
Metricool wins analytics decisively at 5.0 out of 5 against Hootsuite’s 4.0, a category carrying 15 percent of the score. This is the only 5.0 we have awarded in this category, and it is the single reason most switchers name when they leave Hootsuite.
Metricool Analytics
Metricool puts organic social, website traffic, and paid ad results in one dashboard. Ad reporting covers Meta, Google Ads, and TikTok Ads, so a campaign’s organic and paid halves sit on the same screen. No other tool at this price unifies all three.
Competitor benchmarking is included from Starter with 100 competitor profiles, not gated to a top tier. Client-branded PDF and PPT reports export in one click from Starter upward. The Looker Studio connector pipes 14 channels and more than 250 data sources into custom dashboards. It requires an Advanced or Custom plan, with no report limit on Metricool’s side.
Two limits are worth knowing before you evaluate on the free plan. Free-plan history stops at 30 days, charts are watermarked, and reports cannot be downloaded at all. Judging the reporting stack properly means paying for Starter.
Hootsuite Analytics
Hootsuite offers custom dashboards, team performance reporting, and paid campaign management across plans. Custom reports arrive on Professional at $199 per user per month, and 90-day trend forecasting comes with them. Competitor benchmarking against up to 20 rivals sits on Advanced at $399 per user per month.
Its distinctive asset is Talkwalker, now sold inside Social OS as Lumen. It covers more than 150 million sites in more than 187 languages, with Blue Silk AI sentiment and image detection. No rival suite bundles listening at that depth.
The catch is placement. Full Talkwalker listening, white-label reports, and external client portals are Enterprise-only, which is quote-priced.
Hootsuite’s own comparison page claims social listening is “included in every plan” across the lineup. The live plans page tells a different story. What ships below Enterprise is keyword and mention brand monitoring, not Talkwalker.
Verdict: Analytics and Reporting
Metricool wins at 5.0 against 4.0 for anyone whose output is a client report or a paid performance review. It wins at a fraction of the cost. Hootsuite wins for enterprise brand and PR teams that need cross-web listening with sentiment analysis, and only at the Enterprise tier. Below Enterprise, Hootsuite’s analytics are competent and Metricool’s are class-leading.
Ease of Use and Onboarding
Metricool wins ease of use at 3.5 out of 5 against Hootsuite’s 3.0, a category carrying 10 percent of the score. Neither scores highly, and each loses points at a different stage.
Metricool: Ease of Use
Metricool is clean for a single brand. The free plan needs no credit card and does not expire, so evaluation costs nothing but time. Guided onboarding walks a new user through connecting a first network.
The Help Center is unusually complete, with step-by-step guides for scheduling, analytics, bulk import, LinkedIn PDF carousels, and the approval workflow.
Friction appears at scale. Switching between brands is manual, which slows multi-client work exactly where an agency spends its day. Mobile apps ship for iOS and Android.
Hootsuite: Ease of Use
Hootsuite runs well once a team is trained, and getting there takes real effort. Capterra’s ease-of-use subscore is 4.3 out of 5 across 3,799 reviews, which reflects proficient users who already invested that time. First-run experience is described very differently, with the dashboard’s simultaneous streams and tabs cited repeatedly as overwhelming.
Hootsuite Academy and its more than 30,000 certified users are themselves the signal: this platform expects structured training. Instagram requires a Business account, and accounts occasionally disconnect and need manual reconnection. Mobile apps ship for iOS and Android.
Verdict: Ease of Use
Metricool wins at 3.5 against 3.0 for solo operators and small teams who need a first scheduled post today without a training plan. Hootsuite wins for organizations that can budget onboarding time and want one interface covering publishing, inbox, listening, and advocacy. Agencies switching brands dozens of times a day should test Metricool’s manual brand switcher before committing.
Support and Reputation
Hootsuite wins support and reputation at 2.5 out of 5 against Metricool’s 2.0. This is the lowest-weighted category at 5 percent, and the weakest area for both tools. The rating platforms disagree sharply about Hootsuite, and that split is the most useful fact here.
| Platform | Metricool | Hootsuite |
|---|---|---|
| G2 | 4.5/5 (97 reviews) | 4.3/5 (7,354 reviews) |
| Capterra | 4.4/5 (97 reviews) | 4.4/5 (3,799 reviews) |
| Trustpilot | 3.9/5 (622 reviews) | 1.3/5 (554 reviews) |
Read the pattern rather than the averages. Daily users rate both products well on G2 and Capterra. People trying to cancel rate Hootsuite at 1.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot, where billing and cancellation complaints dominate. Hootsuite’s Enterprise contracts are annual and auto-renewing, require 60 days of written notice to cancel, and carry a fee-increase clause.
Metricool’s billing record has its own version of the same problem. Renewals fall outside its 15-day refund window, and verified G2 reviewers document charges on accounts unused for months. One reviewer reported being “blindsided by a $324 auto-renewal charge” on an account inactive for years.
Support responsiveness is Metricool’s documented weak point, with slow replies clustered on those billing disputes.
Hootsuite scores marginally higher because human support exists above Standard and its review volume is 40 times Metricool’s. On the entry Standard plan, an AI bot is the only support contact.
Metricool vs Hootsuite Pricing
Metricool wins pricing and value at 3.0 out of 5 against Hootsuite’s 2.0, a category carrying 10 percent of the score. Neither earns a high mark, because both hide cost in a different place: Metricool in add-ons, Hootsuite in seats.
Metricool Pricing
Metricool prices by brand count on a single workspace, so a team pays for clients rather than people. Rates below are annual billing; monthly billing runs roughly 25 percent higher.
| Plan | Annual (per month) | Monthly | Brands | Notable inclusions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 1 | 20 posts/month, 30 days of analytics, 5 competitors |
| Starter | $20 | $25 | 5 | Unlimited posts, LinkedIn, 100 competitors, branded PDF and PPT reports |
| Starter | $36 | $45 | 10 | Same features, more brands |
| Advanced | $53 | $67 | 15 | Team and client management, roles, approvals, Looker Studio, REST API |
| Advanced | $85 | $107 | 25 | Same features, more brands |
| Advanced | $159 | $210 | 50 | Same features, more brands |
| Custom | Contact sales | Contact sales | Custom | Full white label, dedicated account manager |
Three add-ons sit outside those numbers, and one of them changed this year.
-
X/Twitter. Required for X/Twitter scheduling, inbox, and analytics on every plan. Metricool repriced it in July 2026 to $120 per connected account per year, or $10 per month on monthly billing (Metricool Help Center). Accounts holding add-ons before that date keep the legacy $60 rate, and lose it permanently if they ever drop every add-on.
-
Advanced Analytics. Extends analytics history beyond the plan default. Metricool does not publish this price; it appears in-app only.
-
Hashtag Tracker. Live campaign hashtag monitoring on X and Instagram, sold separately.
An agency running X for ten clients moved from $600 to $1,200 per year on that one add-on. See current rates on the Metricool pricing page.
Hootsuite Pricing
Hootsuite prices per seat, so a team pays for people rather than clients. Rates below are annual billing; month-to-month runs higher.
| Plan | Price | Notable inclusions |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $99/user/month | 10 social accounts, 1 user, unlimited scheduling, AI generation, unified inbox, brand monitoring |
| Professional | $199/user/month | Unlimited social accounts, workflow automation, 90-day trend forecasting, custom reports |
| Advanced | $399/user/month | Approval workflows, message routing, team performance metrics, competitor benchmarking to 20 rivals |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | Full Talkwalker listening, white-label reports, external client portals, SSO, compliance, dedicated manager |
Two facts change the arithmetic. The Advanced tier previously sat at $249 per user per month and now sits at $399, a 60 percent increase. A new Professional tier at $199 was inserted below it, and the free plan was removed in 2022.
Per-seat pricing compounds fast: five users on Advanced is $1,995 per month, or $23,940 per year. See current rates on the Hootsuite plans page.
Which Is Cheaper?
Metricool is cheaper at every team size below an enterprise contract, and the gap widens with every extra brand or seat. Three scenarios, priced on annual billing:
-
Solo creator, four networks including X/Twitter. Metricool Starter is $20 per month plus the $120 per year X add-on, or $360 per year. Hootsuite Standard is $1,188 per year. Metricool costs $828 less.
-
Two-person agency, 10 client brands. Metricool needs Advanced for team and client management, at $53 per month for 15 brands, or $636 per year. Hootsuite Professional is $199 per seat, or $4,776 per year for two. Metricool costs $4,140 less.
-
Agency, 15 brands, approvals and client-branded reports. Metricool Advanced covers all of it at $636 per year on one workspace. Hootsuite gates approvals to Advanced, so one seat is $4,788 per year, and external client portals still require an Enterprise quote. Metricool costs $4,152 less before that quote.
Hootsuite’s structure is defensible in the reverse case: many seats, few brands. A 12-person team managing one corporate brand pays Metricool for capacity it does not use. Hootsuite charges that team for routing, approvals, and an audit trail it actually needs. Full white label is quote-only on both tools, on Metricool’s Custom plan and Hootsuite’s Enterprise tier.
Metricool Pros and Cons
Pros of Metricool

Which Is Better? Metricool vs Hootsuite
Hootsuite wins the overall score at 3.6 out of 5 against Metricool’s 3.5, and Metricool wins the buying decision for most people reading this comparison. Those two statements are not in conflict. The rubric weights breadth that enterprise teams need; the price gap decides everything below that scale.
Choose Metricool if:
-
Client reporting is your main deliverable and you need branded PDF or PPT exports
-
You run paid and organic campaigns together and want Meta, Google, and TikTok ad data beside your organic numbers
-
You manage several brands with few people, since pricing scales by brand rather than by seat
-
You need competitor benchmarking without paying an enterprise rate for it
-
You want agent or API access on a small plan
-
Google Business Profile or Twitch is part of your posting mix
Choose Hootsuite if:
-
Several people touch every post and you need approvals, routing, and an audit trail
-
You publish in high volume and need 350-post CSV uploads on the entry plan
-
Your organization has regulatory obligations that FedRAMP, FCA, IIROC, SEC, or PCI credentials satisfy
-
Cross-web listening with sentiment analysis is a requirement rather than a nice-to-have
-
You store and reuse brand assets and want a real media library
-
WhatsApp Business is a publishing channel for you
Solo creators and small businesses: Metricool, decisively. A free plan with no credit card removes the evaluation risk. Metricool at $360 per year, including the X add-on, beats $1,188 for one Hootsuite seat. Nothing in Hootsuite’s extra breadth pays for that difference at one to five people.
Agencies managing 5 to 50 brands: Metricool, on a re-weighted score rather than the headline one. Our agency composite re-weights the same seven categories for what agencies rely on, then scores client workspaces and approval-plus-reporting as decisive factors. Metricool takes it 3.7 to 3.5, reversing the overall result. The deciding factor is analytics, which carries 16 percent in that profile and where Metricool scores 5.0. Its approvals and client-branded reports arrive at $53 per month, against $399 per Hootsuite seat. Our roundup of the best social media tools for agencies ranks the wider field on that same composite.
Enterprise teams above 50 seats: Hootsuite, without a close second here. Talkwalker listening, Blue Silk AI, SSO, external client portals, and organization-wide compliance governance have no Metricool equivalent at any tier. Budget for the Enterprise quote and read the 60-day cancellation clause before signing. For the wider field, see our roundup of the best social media management tools.
Is There a Better Alternative?
Both tools meter AI by credits, and neither lets you connect your own model key. Metricool allows 5 credits per month on Free, 20 on Starter, and 35 on Advanced. Hootsuite runs OwlyGPT, Wisdom, and Blue Silk AI on proprietary models only. Heavy AI users end up paying twice: once to a model provider elsewhere, and again for metered credits here.
PostMonk closes that specific gap. Bring-your-own-key AI ships on every paid plan and covers OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, and DeepSeek. Connect your own key and generation stops drawing on any credit cap.
The second difference is the billing model. PostMonk sells one-time lifetime workspace codes rather than subscriptions, at $29 for Starter, $59 for Pro, and $99 for Agency. Against Metricool’s $20 per month, Pro pays for itself in three months. Against a single Hootsuite seat at $99 per month, it pays for itself in under three weeks. Pro and Agency also carry a REST API, webhooks, and an MCP server with a full write surface.
PostMonk scores 3.7 out of 5 on the same rubric used for both tools above. Its weakest category is support and reputation, because no independent review base exists yet, and that is a real reason for caution. It suits teams that want uncapped AI and a workspace they buy once. See our guides to the best AI social media tools and the best lifetime social media deals.

FAQs
Is Metricool better than Hootsuite?
