Publer is the best social media tool for small business in 2026, scoring 3.9 out of 5 on our seven-category rubric. It has a permanent free plan and paid tiers from $5 per social account per month. Sprout Social also scores 3.9 but costs $199 per seat per month. Vista Social follows at 3.8. PostMonk, at 3.7, is the only tool here you buy once.
We scored nine tools on scheduling, supported channels, content creation, analytics, ease of use, pricing, and support. Below you get the quick list, the full sub-score grid, and a comparison table with current pricing. After that comes an evaluation of every tool, plus picks by budget and use case.
The 9 best social media tools for small business at a glance
Nine tools were scored on the same weighted rubric, then ranked by the resulting overall score out of 5. Each category is rated 1.0 to 5.0, and the weighted average is the overall score.
PostMonk’s review team wrote this page, and PostMonk was scored by that same rubric alongside the other eight tools. It lands at fourth, not first. The full rubric is published at how we review social media management tools.
-
Publer (3.9/5): Best overall for small business, with a permanent free plan and 13 networks from $5 per account per month.
-
Sprout Social (3.9/5): Best for growing businesses that need a unified inbox and social listening.
-
Vista Social (3.8/5): Best analytics and network breadth in the mid-market, at $79 per month.
-
PostMonk (3.7/5): Best one-time price, with multi-provider BYOK AI and no recurring fee.

Hootsuite (3.6/5): Best all-in-one platform for teams with a real software budget.

-
Metricool (3.5/5): Best analytics per dollar, combining social, web, and ad data in one dashboard.
-
SocialBee (3.3/5): Best category-based evergreen recycling.
-
Later (2.9/5): Best Instagram and TikTok visual planner.
This guide covers social media scheduling and management platforms. It does not cover design tools such as Canva, and it does not rank the social networks themselves.
What is a social media management tool?
A social media management tool is software that schedules, publishes, monitors, and analyzes posts across multiple social networks from a single dashboard.
These tools cover six core capabilities:
-
Post scheduling and publishing: Queue posts for automatic publishing, set timezone-aware schedules, and bulk import content in batches.
-
Cross-platform analytics: Track reach, engagement, follower growth, and post performance without logging into each network.
-
Content creation assistance: AI caption writers, hashtag generators, image editors, and media libraries speed up production.
-
Social inbox: Centralize comments, direct messages, and mentions from multiple networks in one reply queue.
-
Team collaboration: Assign roles, route drafts for approval, and give clients scoped access without sharing credentials.
-
Automation: Evergreen recycling, RSS auto-posting, and performance-triggered rules keep accounts active between manual sessions.
Free native schedulers such as Meta Business Suite cover Facebook and Instagram at no cost. The gap is cross-platform reach, because Meta Business Suite does not publish to LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest, or X. A dedicated tool removes the tab switching and gives a small team one place to plan, approve, and report.
How we scored these tools, and the full sub-score grid
Every tool carries one overall score, computed from seven weighted categories that reflect what a buyer actually relies on. The weights and what each category means for a small business are below.
| Category | Weight | What matters for a small business |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduling and publishing | 25% | True auto-publish rather than reminders, queue control, bulk import, and a clean failed-post record |
| Supported channels and integrations | 20% | Coverage of the networks you actually use, plus API, webhook, and agent access |
| Content creation tools | 15% | Composer quality, per-platform overrides, and whether AI is credit-metered or bring-your-own-key |
| Analytics and reporting | 15% | Metrics a non-specialist can act on, plus exports and client-ready reports |
| Ease of use | 10% | Time from signup to a first scheduled post, and how cleanly brands are separated |
| Pricing and value | 10% | Whether cost stays predictable as accounts, seats, and brands grow |
| Support and reputation | 5% | Response quality, plus current aggregate ratings across G2, Capterra, and Trustpilot |
Here is the part almost no competing roundup publishes: the per-category sub-scores behind every overall. Each row is the tool’s own scorecard from its PostMonk review, so this page and that review always state the same numbers.
| Tool | Sched. 25% | Channels 20% | Content 15% | Analytics 15% | Ease 10% | Pricing 10% | Support 5% | Overall |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Publer | 4.5 | 4.0 | 3.5 | 3.0 | 4.0 | 3.5 | 5.0 | 3.9 |
| Sprout Social | 4.5 | 4.0 | 3.5 | 4.5 | 3.5 | 2.0 | 3.5 | 3.9 |
| Vista Social | 4.0 | 4.0 | 3.0 | 4.5 | 4.0 | 3.0 | 3.5 | 3.8 |
| PostMonk | 3.5 | 4.0 | 4.5 | 2.5 | 4.0 | 5.0 | 1.5 | 3.7 |
| Hootsuite | 3.5 | 4.5 | 4.0 | 4.0 | 3.0 | 2.0 | 2.5 | 3.6 |
| Buffer | 3.5 | 4.0 | 3.0 | 2.5 | 4.5 | 3.0 | 4.0 | 3.5 |
| Metricool | 3.5 | 4.0 | 2.5 | 5.0 | 3.5 | 3.0 | 2.0 | 3.5 |
| SocialBee | 3.5 | 3.5 | 3.5 | 3.0 | 3.0 | 2.5 | 4.0 | 3.3 |
| Later | 3.0 | 3.0 | 3.5 | 2.5 | 3.5 | 2.0 | 1.5 | 2.9 |
Two ties are broken on small-business fit. Publer ranks above Sprout Social at 3.9 because it has a free plan and a $5 entry price. Buffer ranks above Metricool at 3.5 because its onboarding and free plan suit a first tool better.
One caveat matters when you read this grid. The rubric weights a general scheduler buyer, not a small business specifically. The highest overall score is therefore not automatically the right purchase at your budget. Use the grid to see where each tool is strong, then use the picks in the verdict.
Best social media tools for small business compared
The table below carries the overall score, the entry price, and the free-plan terms for all nine tools. Prices were verified on each vendor’s live pricing page on 2026-08-08.

| Vista Social | 3.8 | Analytics and network breadth | No (14-day trial) | $79/mo | 13 | Managed credits |

| SocialBee | 3.3 | Evergreen recycling | No (14-day trial) | $29/mo | 8 | Managed |
| Later | 2.9 | Instagram visual planning | No (14-day trial) | $25/mo | 8 | Managed credits |
Prices reflect monthly billing unless stated. Most vendors discount annual billing by 15% to 25%, so check each pricing page before you buy.
Publer: best social media tool for small business overall
Best for: Small businesses running 1 to 10 social accounts that need dependable publishing across mainstream and newer networks.
Overall score: 3.9 out of 5.
Publer scores 3.9 out of 5 and takes the top spot on two categories a small business feels every week. It leads on scheduling and publishing at 4.5, and on support and reputation at a full 5.0. It is also the only tool here pairing a permanent free plan with a $5 entry price.
What Publer does well
Publer publishes to 13 networks, including Mastodon, Bluesky, Threads, and Telegram, which most schedulers skip entirely. Its scheduling engine runs four modes, imports up to 500 posts per CSV batch, recycles evergreen content, and truly auto-publishes rather than sending reminder notifications.
Reliability is the most repeated praise signal across all three review platforms. Publer holds 4.7/5 across 521 reviews on G2, 4.8/5 across 956 reviews on Capterra, and 4.8/5 across 990 reviews on Trustpilot.
One caveat belongs beside those ratings. Publer runs a published bonus scheme awarding up to 17% off for leaving third-party reviews, so the sample carries an incentive. The scores are still strong and consistent across three platforms.
Limitations
Analytics sit entirely behind the Business plan. On Professional you get no reporting at all, and even on Business the PDF and CSV exports carry Publer branding, with no white-label option.
BYOK AI is limited to OpenAI. If your provider raises prices or your caption quality preference shifts, there is no second provider to fall back on inside the tool.
Per-account and per-member pricing compounds. A business running 10 accounts with two team members pays materially more than the $5 headline suggests.
Pricing
Publer prices per social account per month, with three tiers and a permanent free plan.
| Plan | Per account/mo | Key inclusions |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 3 accounts excluding X, 10 pending posts per account, 25 drafts, 24 hours of post history |
| Professional | $5 | Unlimited scheduled posts, AutoSchedule, recycling, recurring posts, X support, 7-day trial |
| Business | $10 | Everything in Professional, plus analytics, competitor and hashtag analysis, unlimited AI prompts, REST API |

Sprout Social: best for growing businesses with a software budget
Best for: Small businesses that have crossed into a growth phase, handle real inbound volume, and can absorb $199 per seat per month.
Overall score: 3.9 out of 5.
Sprout Social scores 3.9 out of 5 on the strength of scheduling at 4.5 and analytics at 4.5. A pricing score of 2.0 pulls the total down. It appears at position four in Google’s AI Overview for this query, so buyers encounter it constantly.
What Sprout Social does well
The Smart Inbox is the best unified inbox in the category. It pulls messages, comments, direct messages, and reviews from 11 networks into one stream. WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are included, so nothing gets answered twice or missed.
Reporting is presentation-ready without extra work. ViralPost schedules to each audience’s active window, and the listening module draws from Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, Tumblr, X, and YouTube.
Limitations
Pricing is the single largest barrier for a small business. Essentials runs $79 per seat per month but has no Smart Inbox. The feature people actually buy Sprout Social for starts at $199 per seat per month.
There is no free plan and no public API, no webhooks, and no Zapier or MCP access. Annual billing is the default, so the commitment risk is real.
Sentiment splits sharply by platform. Sprout Social is a G2 Leader across 6,610 reviews on G2 while sitting at 1.7/5 on Trustpilot. Billing and cancellation complaints drive most of that gap.
Pricing
Sprout Social charges per seat, and profile caps apply on the lower tiers.
| Plan | Per seat/mo (annual) | Profiles | Key inclusions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $79 | 5 | ViralPost, basic reporting, mobile app, no Smart Inbox |
| Standard | $199 | 5 | Smart Inbox, keyword and location monitoring, review management |
| Professional | $299 | Unlimited | Competitor and paid reports, AI Assist post enhancement, Campaign Planner |
| Advanced | $399 | Unlimited | Sentiment analysis, spike alerts, helpdesk integrations, API as an add-on |
Verify current tiers on the Sprout Social pricing page, because published third-party figures for this product disagree by more than $150 per month. Read our full Sprout Social review, weigh substitutes in Sprout Social alternatives, or see PostMonk vs Sprout Social.
Vista Social: best analytics and network breadth in the mid-market
Best for: Small businesses and freelancers running multi-brand social work from a desktop who want agency-grade reporting without agency pricing.
Overall score: 3.8 out of 5.
Vista Social scores 3.8 out of 5 on the weighted formula, carried by analytics at 4.5 and network breadth at 4.0. It delivers agency-class reporting and 13 networks at mid-market pricing.
What Vista Social does well
Vista Social publishes to 13 networks, including Reddit, Snapchat, Tumblr, Bluesky, and Google Business Profile. Analytics carry no historical data limit, report across networks in one view, and export to PDF, CSV, and Excel.
It also ships a hosted MCP server, so an AI agent can draft and schedule posts directly. Users rate it 4.8/5 across 1,117 reviews on G2, where it holds the “#1 Easiest to use” badge in its category.
Limitations
X publishing costs $29 per month on top of every plan, including legacy lifetime accounts. Social listening beyond your own profiles adds $75 per month per listener, so a freelancer wanting both pays $183 per month rather than $79.
The mobile app cannot schedule posts. If your workflow happens on a phone, this is disqualifying rather than inconvenient.
Vista Social also retroactively capped accounts that had been sold as unlimited, under a Fair Use Policy. Weigh that if long-term terms matter to you.
Pricing
Vista Social prices by profile count and user seats across four tiers.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual per month | Profiles | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Professional | $79 | $63 | 15 | 2 |
| Advanced | $149 | $119 | 30 | 4 |
| Scale | $349 | $303 | 70 | 8 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Unlimited | Unlimited |

PostMonk: best one-time price for a small business
Best for: Small businesses that want to stop paying monthly forever without giving up AI features or multi-platform scheduling.
Overall score: 3.7 out of 5.
PostMonk scores 3.7 out of 5 and ranks fourth. It earns the only perfect pricing score in this list at 5.0. It also carries the lowest support and reputation score at 1.5, because no independent review base exists yet. It is an AI-first platform you buy once and own.
Platform coverage
PostMonk connects nine social platforms on every paid plan:
-
Facebook
-
Instagram
-
X (Twitter)
-
LinkedIn
-
TikTok
-
YouTube
-
Pinterest
-
Threads
-
Bluesky
Scheduling and publishing
PostMonk supports immediate publishing, scheduled posts, and queue-based auto-scheduling. I tested the queue flow during the trial: you define posting slots once, then dropped posts fill the next available time. The calendar shows every queued and scheduled post across platforms in one grid.
Five scheduling features are available on all paid plans.
-
First comment scheduling
-
Draft mode with full status tracking covering draft, queued, scheduled, published, and failed
-
Failed post retry with user notifications
-
Post labels for filtering and reporting
-
Instagram grid planner with drag-and-swap layout preview
Four more scheduling features are gated to Pro and Agency.
-
Recurring posts on daily, weekly, or custom intervals
-
Evergreen content recycling
-
Bulk CSV import at 500 posts per batch on Pro and 2,000 on Agency
-
Performance Rules, which are engagement-triggered automations, with 5 on Pro and 25 on Agency
AI features
BYOK AI is available on every paid plan, and this is where PostMonk earns its 4.5 content-creation score. You connect your own API key from five providers:
-
OpenAI
-
Anthropic Claude
-
Google Gemini
-
OpenRouter, which reaches 100 or more models through one key
-
DeepSeek
BYOK means AI cost is whatever your provider charges you directly. For a small business generating 20 captions per month on Claude Haiku, I estimated roughly $2 to $4 per month in API costs. Every other tool in this list except Publer meters AI through credits that reset to zero.
PostMonk also ships a managed credit pool as a fallback, at 8,000 credits on Starter, 20,000 on Pro, and 40,000 on Agency. These are lifetime pools rather than monthly resets.
All paid plans include AI caption generation, caption improvement, hashtag suggestions, alt text generation, six tone presets, and content generation in 80 or more languages. Pro and Agency add AI analytics questions in natural language, comment response suggestions, and AI image generation through your BYOK provider.
Pro and Agency also include a native MCP server. An agent such as Anthropic Claude can read the content calendar, draft posts, and schedule them with no manual step. I connected it and confirmed it reads calendar data and creates scheduled posts correctly. For more agent-driven options, see our guide to the best AI social media tools.
Pricing
PostMonk sells three one-time tiers, each covering a different scale of account management.
| Plan | Price | Social accounts | Brand Assets | Team seats | Key additions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $29 one-time | 5 | 1 | 1 | BYOK AI, 8k lifetime credits, queue scheduling, 500 posts/mo |
| Pro | $59 one-time | 25 | 5 | 3 | MCP server, REST API, webhooks, recurring posts, bulk import |
| Agency | $99 one-time | 100 | 25 | 10 | Client approval portal, white-label PDF reports, custom domain |
For context, Buffer’s Essentials plan costs $6 per channel per month, which is $360 per year at five channels. PostMonk Starter costs $29 once and covers five accounts. A 7-day free trial requires no credit card, and a 30-day money-back guarantee applies after you activate a workspace.
Content, media, and team tools
PostMonk includes a built-in image editor covering crop, resize, filters, and annotation, plus a media library for reusing assets. Stock integrations cover Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay, and GIPHY, and a Canva integration imports designs straight into the composer.
Five role levels cover Owner, Admin, Editor, Viewer, and Client. Approval workflows let an Editor submit content for review before publishing, and the Agency plan adds a client approval portal plus white-label PDF reports.
Limitations
PostMonk has no confirmed mobile app as of August 2026, so it is desktop and browser only. An owner who schedules from a phone will feel that gap immediately.
There is no unified social inbox. Replying to comments and direct messages means logging into each network, which Sprout Social, Hootsuite, and Vista Social all handle in one place.
PostMonk has no G2, Capterra, or TrustRadius review base, which is why its support and reputation score is 1.5, the lowest in this list. Buyers who rely on peer reviews will find no independent data.
Competitor analysis is a V2 roadmap item and is not live. Analytics score 2.5 as a result, well behind Metricool at 5.0.

Hootsuite: best all-in-one platform for teams with a budget
Best for: Small businesses with a dedicated marketing budget of $99 per month or more that need the most comprehensive platform available.
Overall score: 3.6 out of 5.
Hootsuite scores 3.6 out of 5, with the highest channels and integrations score in this list at 4.5. It sits at position two in Google’s AI Overview across every query variant we tested. It also appears in all three qualifying competitor listicles we reviewed.
What Hootsuite does well
Hootsuite covers 20 or more social platforms and offers the deepest enterprise feature set here. Six capabilities were verified on the live plans page.
-
Unified social inbox across every connected account
-
Wisdom AI caption and image generation on all plans
-
Smart scheduling with best-time recommendations
-
Advanced analytics with competitor benchmarking
-
Campaign tagging for content organization
-
Approval workflows on the Advanced plan
The honest pricing assessment
Hootsuite Standard starts at $99 per user per month billed annually, for up to 10 social accounts. That is the number most listicles cite, and it is not the number most buyers pay.
Hootsuite promotes Professional at $199 per user per month as its “Most Popular” plan, with unlimited accounts. For most visitors to the plans page, the real entry cost is $199, which is why its pricing score is 2.0.
That puts Hootsuite at roughly seven times SocialBee’s Bootstrap plan. It is right for a small business where social media drives revenue, and wrong for a bootstrapped one watching monthly expenses.
Limitations
Hootsuite has no permanent free plan, and the 14-day trial caps posting at 10 to 20 posts per organization per day.
Reputation is split. Hootsuite holds 4.4/5 across 3,799 reviews on Capterra but 1.3/5 across 554 reviews on Trustpilot, a gap concentrated in billing and cancellation experiences. That drives the support score of 2.5.
Platform depth creates a steeper learning curve, scoring 3.0 on ease of use. A solo operator who wants to schedule posts and check analytics will find it heavier than Buffer, Publer, or PostMonk.
Read our full Hootsuite review, weigh substitutes in Hootsuite alternatives, see PostMonk vs Hootsuite, or check current tiers on the Hootsuite plans page.
Buffer: best for simplicity and the easiest free plan
Best for: Solo creators and very small teams running 2 to 4 channels who want the most intuitive scheduling interface in the category.
Overall score: 3.5 out of 5.
Buffer scores 3.5 out of 5 and posts the highest ease-of-use score in this list at 4.5. It ranks first in Google’s AI Overview for every query variant we tested, and it holds position one in Zapier’s 2026 ranked list. That consistency reflects genuine fit for solo operators.
What Buffer does well
Buffer’s free plan covers three channels at 10 scheduled posts per channel per month. For a business posting two or three times a week on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, that is enough to test the tool at zero cost.
Essentials costs roughly $6 per channel per month on monthly billing, or $5 per channel billed annually. It includes unlimited scheduled posts, advanced analytics, first comment scheduling, a hashtag manager, Canva integration, an AI caption assistant, and the Start Page link-in-bio tool.
Buffer supports 11 platforms: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, and Google Business Profile. It also ships a native MCP server on every plan.
Limitations
Analytics score 2.5, the joint lowest here alongside Later. Advanced analytics reach only 4 of the 11 supported networks, and there is no social listening, no competitor benchmarking, and no custom report builder.
Buffer has no unified social inbox, so replies happen network by network. Evergreen recycling is not a native feature either, which is where SocialBee earns its place.
Per-channel pricing compounds. Five channels cost $360 per year, and adding one collaborator moves every channel to the Team rate at roughly $12 per channel per month.
Pricing
Buffer charges per individual social account rather than per seat.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing | Key notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 3 channels, 10 posts per channel per month, 1 user, basic insights |
| Essentials | ~$6/channel | $5/channel | Unlimited posts, advanced analytics, first comment, 1 user |
| Team | ~$12/channel | $10/channel | Unlimited team members, approval workflows, custom access |
Buffer rates 4.3/5 on G2 and 4.5/5 on Capterra, with support praised as fast and human. A 50% nonprofit discount applies to paid plans, and current rates are on the Buffer pricing page.

Metricool: best analytics per dollar
Best for: Data-driven small businesses that want to see which content drives traffic, engagement, and ad performance from one dashboard.
Overall score: 3.5 out of 5.
Metricool scores 3.5 out of 5 and holds the only perfect analytics score in this list at 5.0. It is an analytics platform with scheduling attached rather than the reverse. Google’s AI Overview for the variant query “social media management tools for small business” lists it at position three.
What Metricool does well
Metricool’s free plan covers one brand with 20 scheduled posts per month, five competitor profiles, and 30 days of analytics history. That is a genuine entry point with no payment required.
Paid plans put social, website, and paid ad data in the same dashboard, which no other tool here does at this price. Starter adds unlimited scheduling, one-click PDF and PPT reports, UTM tracking, a link shortener, LinkedIn PDF carousels, and Canva and Google Drive integration. Advanced adds team management, post approval, and a Looker Studio connector.
I found the combined view genuinely useful for comparing social post performance against website sessions without switching tools.
Limitations
Content creation scores 2.5, the lowest here. There is no library for your own reusable assets. The AI assistant is credit-metered at five credits per month on Free, with no bring-your-own-key option.
X access is a paid add-on on every plan, repriced to $120 per account per year in July 2026. A small business running X will pay well above the advertised Starter price.
Support scores 2.0. Slow and unhelpful responses are documented on G2 and Trustpilot, clustered around billing disputes and auto-renewal charges on inactive accounts.
The free plan’s 20-post cap is a real constraint. A business targeting daily posting needs a paid plan from day one.
Pricing
Metricool prices by number of brands rather than social accounts or seats.
| Plan | Annual per month | Monthly billing | Brands | Key notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 1 | 20 posts/mo, 5 competitor profiles, 30-day analytics |
| Starter | From $20 | From $22 | Up to 10 | Unlimited scheduling, PDF reports, Canva, Google Drive |
| Advanced | From $53 | Varies | Up to 50 | Team management, post approval, API, Looker Studio |
Current tiers are on the Metricool pricing page. Read our full Metricool review, explore Metricool alternatives, or see PostMonk vs Metricool.
SocialBee: best for evergreen content recycling
Best for: Owners who want a calendar organized by content pillar, with evergreen posts recycling automatically to keep accounts active during busy weeks.
Overall score: 3.3 out of 5.
SocialBee scores 3.3 out of 5 and owns the best category-based recycling we have scored. You organize posts by pillar such as promotional, educational, behind-the-scenes, and curated, give each category its own schedule, and SocialBee fills the queue automatically.
What SocialBee does well
Evergreen posts cycle back into the queue once they have all published, so a content library keeps working without manual rescheduling. For an owner running the business and the social accounts, that structure is the practical benefit.
Seven capabilities define the product.
-
Category queues with a separate posting schedule per category
-
Evergreen recycling that returns posts to the queue automatically
-
AI caption generation on managed credits
-
RSS auto-posting for curated third-party content
-
Per-platform post customization
-
Canva integration
-
Analytics dashboard
SocialBee covers eight platforms: Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube, and Google Business Profile. It rates 4.7/5 across 478 reviews on G2.
Limitations
Pricing scores 2.5. There is no free plan at all, only a 14-day trial, and the Bootstrap tier covers one workspace and one user. Adding a second person or brand pushes you to Accelerate or Pro, roughly doubling the monthly cost.
SocialBee has no unified social inbox, so comment and message replies happen network by network.
Analytics score 3.0 and trail Metricool clearly. There is no website traffic integration, no competitor benchmarking, and no ad account reporting.
Sentiment is split, at 4.7/5 on G2 against 3.7/5 across 56 reviews on Trustpilot, with publishing failures the recurring theme in the negative set.
Pricing
SocialBee prices by workspace and user count rather than social accounts.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual per month | Profiles | Users | Workspaces |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bootstrap | $29 | $24.20 | 5 | 1 | 1 |
| Accelerate | $49 | $40.83 | 10 | 1 | 1 |
| Pro | $99 | $82.50 | 25 | 3 | 5 |
A 14-day trial needs no credit card, and a 30-day money-back guarantee applies. Current rates are on the SocialBee pricing page. Read our full SocialBee review, explore SocialBee alternatives, or see PostMonk vs SocialBee.
Later: best Instagram and TikTok visual planner
Best for: Small businesses whose social presence is visual, including retail brands on Instagram, restaurants on TikTok, and any brand where feed aesthetics drive discovery.
Overall score: 2.9 out of 5.
Later scores 2.9 out of 5, the lowest here, and still owns the best visual planner in the category. Its Instagram grid planner, media library, and Linkin.bio tool are the most developed on this list for brands treating the feed as a storefront.
What Later does well
Later’s calendar is built around the visual grid rather than text composition. You see exactly how the Instagram feed will look before anything publishes. Drag and swap posts to adjust the layout, then preview the arrangement in one view.
It auto-publishes to Instagram and TikTok, previews Reels and TikTok video, and includes a social inbox on the Growth and Scale plans. Later covers eight platforms: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Snapchat.
X is not listed on Later’s pricing page as of August 2026. Verify current platform support before buying if X scheduling matters to you.
Limitations
Support scores 1.5, the lowest figure anywhere in this grid. Support is chatbot-first, a 12-hour response commitment applies only on Scale, and Later sits at 1.6/5 on Trustpilot’s later.com listing.
Analytics score 2.5. There is nothing for LinkedIn, YouTube, or Snapchat, history caps at three months on Starter, and custom analytics are Scale-only. Capterra reviews show 59% negative sentiment on support, which you can read on Capterra.
The Starter plan caps posting at 30 posts per profile per month. A business posting daily hits that ceiling and must step up to Growth.
There is no evergreen recycling. Later is a forward-scheduling tool, and content does not cycle back automatically.
Pricing
Later discounts annual billing by 25% across all plans.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual per month | Users | Profiles | Posts/profile/mo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $25 | $18.75 | 1 | 8 | 30 |

Which social media tool should your small business use?
Publer is the right default for most small businesses, at 3.9 out of 5. It has a free plan, a $5 entry price, and the strongest publishing reliability record here. Pick differently when one of these conditions applies.
-
You have no budget at all: Buffer covers three channels at 10 posts each per month, and Metricool covers one brand at 20 posts per month. Both are free forever, not trials.
-
You want to stop paying monthly: PostMonk costs $29 once for five accounts. Against $360 per year for a comparable subscription, it repays itself in the first month.
-
Your business lives on Instagram or TikTok: Later is built for grid planning, Reels, and visual-first workflows, despite its low overall score.
-
You need analytics more than scheduling: Metricool is the only tool here putting social, website, and ad data in one dashboard at a free tier.
-
You want evergreen recycling: SocialBee’s category queues keep accounts active without weekly manual work.
-
Inbound messages are the real workload: Sprout Social’s Smart Inbox is the best in the category, at $199 per seat per month.
-
You run multi-brand work and need reporting depth: Vista Social gives 13 networks and unlimited analytics history at $79 per month.
-
You have a real software budget and want everything in one place: Hootsuite covers 20 or more platforms, with Professional at $199 per seat per month.
Two tools appear in Google’s AI Overview for this query but are not scored here yet. Zoho Social is worth a look if you already run Zoho CRM, and it reports 88% small-business adoption on G2 at roughly $10 per month. Agorapulse is the alternative to Sprout Social if inbox depth is your main need.
If you post to one platform three or four times a week, Meta Business Suite is free and sufficient. A paid tool starts paying off at three or more channels, or when a virtual assistant or client needs visibility into what is scheduled.

FAQs
What is the most popular social media management tool?
Buffer and Hootsuite are the most widely cited social media management tools. Buffer appears at position one in Google’s AI Overview for every small-business query variant we tested. Hootsuite appears at position two across all of them. Buffer earns that on simplicity and a real free plan. Hootsuite earns it on platform depth, despite a $99 per seat per month entry price.
Is there a free social media management tool?
Yes. Publer’s free plan covers three social accounts with 10 pending scheduled posts each. Buffer’s covers three channels at 10 posts per channel per month. Metricool’s covers one brand at 20 posts per month. Meta Business Suite is free for Facebook and Instagram only. Sprout Social, Vista Social, Hootsuite, SocialBee, PostMonk, and Later offer trials rather than free plans.
What are examples of social media management tools?
Examples of social media management tools include Publer, Sprout Social, Vista Social, PostMonk, Hootsuite, Buffer, Metricool, SocialBee, and Later. Publer scores highest for small business at 3.9 out of 5. PostMonk is the only one sold at a one-time price of $29, and Buffer is the easiest to learn. Each schedules, publishes, and reports across multiple networks from one dashboard.
What is the best social media platform for small businesses?
Facebook and Instagram suit most business-to-consumer small businesses, LinkedIn suits professional services, and TikTok suits younger audiences. Local businesses should add Google Business Profile. Start with two or three platforms where your customers already are, because posting consistently on a few beats posting sporadically on many. Every tool in this guide publishes to those networks from one calendar.
What is the 5 3 2 rule on Instagram?
The 5 3 2 rule is a content-mix framework. For every 10 posts, 5 are curated from other sources, 3 are original to your business, and 2 are personal or behind-the-scenes. It stops a feed reading as constant advertising. Tools with category queues, such as SocialBee, make the mix easier to hold without tracking post types in a spreadsheet.
How much does social media management software cost for a small business?
Social media management software costs a small business $0 to $199 per month in 2026. Free plans exist at Publer, Buffer, and Metricool. Paid entry points run $5 per account per month at Publer, $22 per month at Metricool, $25 at Later, and $29 at SocialBee. PostMonk is the outlier at $29 one-time, with no recurring fee.
What is the difference between a social media scheduler and a full management tool?
A scheduler queues and publishes posts. A full management tool adds analytics, a unified inbox for comments and direct messages, team collaboration, approval workflows, and AI content assistance. Publer, Buffer, PostMonk, SocialBee, and Later are primarily schedulers. Sprout Social, Hootsuite, and Vista Social are full management platforms, which is why their entry prices start at $79 per month or more.
